I have my pool pump surface skimmer connected through the drain since the pool is only partly full. I was doing some vacuuming yesterday and the vacuum connects to the top of the skimmer which means the hose goes up a few inches above the water.
I figured if that worked I should be able to hook it through the side of the pool - the water is about 2" below the bottom of the port. So I opened the air valve on the pump, moved the connections around and primed the pump by dunking the skimmer and holding it up to drain water into the pump intake hose until it started spilling out the pump exaust back into the pool. Then I put the skimmer back in the water and turned the pump on. It ran for a few minutes ok but basically emptied the intake hose and did not pull any thing else from the pool.
So question is why does the vac hose work but the skimmer hooked up properly does not?
