Grain elevator fire in Dawson Creek B.C.

Started around 10:00 am yesterday and was still going this morning. Electricity was shut down for half of the city during the fire for a few hours (not sure why but there must have been a good reason) nearby businesses and homes evacuated as smaller fires sprouted up. A few explosions backed up the crowd. A tough day for the fire department as they had to back off a few times.

Saw one go up in Oklahoma once. Burned for 4 days, multiple explosions. Dangerous stuff, grain dust.

      Elevator fire

That sends chills up my back, since I work for one of these. One exploded in Wichita, Ks. a few years back and killed at least two. Most of these fires are from bad housekeeping and bad maintence. One hot bearing and dust and you have a bad situation.

In that last pic it looks like someone is spraying water over the power lines and transformers to get at the fire. Isn't that a wee bit dangerous?

I saw this on the news - I'm down the road in PG. Howdy, neighbour!
