Just returned, been gone a while.

I've just recently returned from being stationed overseas for 3 years, without my BT3000. I am glad to be back and I am even happier to see that the 3000 is still working great although a new blade is on the horizon.

I'm not sure where to post this question so I am putting it here, if it is in teh wrong place, could a moderator please help me out here?

I am getting ready to start building again but I am in a new area, Fort Campbell, KY. I am trying to find a good source for hardwood, preferrably kiln dried and perhaps one edge jointed but I can take rough cut as well. Is anyone here familiar with the area and if so, do you have any recommendations?

Any help would be great and I am looking forward to getting all saw dusty again.

Thanks, it's good to be back. The nice thing about being gone for 3 years, you almost forget what you put in storage. I pulled out my tools (cobwebs and all) and it was like Christmas. I did however forget that I had sold my small 8 inch bandsaw before I left, this saddened me until my wife said, "why don't you just buy yourself a bigger one like you wanted". It's hard to say no to buying a new toy, I mean tool. I ended up with the Craftsman 14inch bandsaw and after the online sale along with the in store sale, it was about 369. I love it.

I have about 5 months to get some things built and then I will be off to Afghanistan for 15 months. I look forward to visiting this site often.

With regard to the wood, call some cabinet shops and tell them that you're a serviceman/ woodworker and that you are looking for a source of wood. You just might luck into another vet or, at least, an appreciative person who will give you a referral or two. Now, get busy and have some fun!

Cabinetman, yes I am in the Army, going on 17 years. They've been good years for the most part but it's just about time to hang it up (3 more years).

Crokett, I see that little blue buffalo, are you a Bills fan? I am originally from a small town called Ransomville, NY thats about 8 or 10 miles from Niagara Falls. Matter of fact, I will be heading home around the first of August for a family reunion.

I've always enjoyed this forum before I left and I'm glad to see it is still going strong. It's been my pleasure to serve the good people of the USA like yourselves and I look forward to doing it for a few more years.

Welcome home trooper, know what and where you are coming from. Spent 21 years around the world with the gov't..some good places and some REALLY bad. Anyway, not sure how far this place is from Ft. Campbell but "Hardwoods of N. Carolina has done me pretty good for some lumber. Phone is: 1-800-445-7335; web site is: "www.hardwoodstore.com".

Not sure what you consider "close" to Clarksville, but the Woodfinder site should be a good start. If you don't mind a bit of a drive, there's a place down here by me (Dickson....maybe 1-1/2 hours south of you) that has a pretty good inventory, but wasn't listed on Woodfinder.

Middle Tennessee Lumber (www.middletennlumber.com) has always had what I was looking for. They used to have a price list online, but don't see one anymore, only an inventory list. I'll have to stop in & see if they have a printed price list. They process a pretty good volume.
