    Your childhood and ethnicity

I was born in Indiana, and spent 8 years of my childhood in Vermont before returning to Indiana at age 13. My heritage is about 3/4 French, and 1/4 German. I am the third generation in our family born in the U.S. What about you?

1/2 English, 1/4 Irish, 1/4 Welsh. Grew up in Pittsburgh when it had every ethnic neighborhood you could think of. Ohhhh, the eatin' was good!

Hmmm, you're not my wife's brother, are you? Well, she didn't grow up in Pittsburgh.

I was born at very early age...

... to parents that are both 1/2 English and 1/2 Irish, so I'm 2/4 of each! The English side of my Mother's family traces back to the Mayflower.

I was discovered under a rock in Arizona by a Native American tribe.
The next week, Mom found me under that rock.

Mostly Irish with a bit of Choctaw still in my blood. My Great Grandmother was either the sister of one Choctaw chief, or the daughter of another. Both married Griggs men, but records are so sparse that I haven't been able to find out which one it was.

BTW, after moving west on the Trail of Tears from Georgia, Chiefs of the Choctaw and Cherokee were appointed by the Indian Affairs office. No royalty in the position by then.

Dad's family is Scotch Irish, first migrated to American in the mid 1700's. My mom is German, from the Bavaria region. Dad was in the Air Force in the mid 1950's when the US still occupied Germany. I was born and raised in Shreveport, LA, near Barksdale AFB.

Mom's side: full blooded Irish. Cahill's from north Missouri. I'm third generation in the states from that side.

Dad's side: My great grandmother was a full blood Cherokee Princess. She lived to be 98. Great grandfather was half Irish, half Scottish with a Saxon last name: Clevenger. He didn't make it for me to meet him.

My dad's side of the family is German Mennonite (German from Russia). My mom's side of the family is mostly German. I'm second generation american/californian. I've always lived in Calif. Even when I joined the military to see the world they sent me back to California, 2 hours from home.

First generation American of Swedish decent. Dad came here in 1926, Mom came as an infant in 1913. Wife is second generation Finn from Upper Pininsula Michigan. I knew more Finish than Swedish and one time I got my future Father in Law when he said something about me to my Mother in law in Finn and I answered him, but in English. He almost swallowed his denture. He never did that again in my presence, nothing bad he just made a smart ass comment and I gave him a smart ass comment in return. He had done it before but I wasn't prepared to give a response. This time I came ready and it was fun. From then on until his death we had a great relationship.
