Too much water in the lake

We live NW of Austin on Lake Travis in the flood plain. We built accordingly and have not had a problem in the last 5 years. Went to bed Wednesday night and the lake was at the full level of 681’. Due to 18” of rain upstream in Marble Falls, it came up 5’ by 7 a.m. on Thursday morning. Due to possible (likely) rain, we moved out. Packed up the freezers and moved that to my dad’s freezer in south Texas. Now, we are waiting to see just how long we will have to be out of the house.

Last forecast has the lake level possibly reaching 699’ above sea level. Our garage floor is at 695’ and 2nd floor (my shop) is at 705’. I’m not worried now, except for the inconvenience, but it it gets to 704’+, then I will be really concerned.

I am planning on trying to get back into the house tomorrow and get some additional paperwork and more clothes. Looks like I might have to use the 6’ dingy that washed ashore last year. Might need it to get back to the house.

    Flood

Good luck Ken. My wife's sister's house was flooded about14 years ago, and it was unbelievable how hard it was to clean up. I hope you avoid this.

Just read in the paper this morning that some lakes around here could reach drought level today.

            Johnstown Flood

I spent the night building a Levey with a bobcat around my trailer and shed 5 harleys in the shed. http://www.johnstownpa.com/History/hist21.html

Let's pray all you folks get through this without too much pain. The weather sure has been crazy for a while.

Lake level was 697.3 this morning and LOML and I got back into the house to grab a few more things. Unless more rain, lake is 'supposed' to reach 700' in the next few days. Looks like it will be another week or so before we can get back. Don't expect too much damage right now unless it gets to 705' or above. Then it will be mostly contents damage. LOML is really complaining now about all her landscaping is down the drain. The lake flooded back in June 1997 and lots of landscaping died as a result. There was another flood in December 1991 and it didn't do too much damage since most plants were dormant at the time.
