    Need Help With PDA

LOML has a Sony CLIE' model PEG-TJ37. She says the battery won't hold a charge and it has to go to Sony to have a new battery installed. I've tried to take it apart, and the back has two "Y" type tiny screw heads, that even my tiny screwdrivers won't fit. Is she right that Sony has to change batteries?

Sony is unfortunately notorious for proprietary technology (minidisk, duocards, blu-ray, to name a few) and apparently this extends to their screws as well

If you can't get the screws off looks like they might have to do it.

Lay the PDA face down on the bench. Pick up the heaviest object you can find. Try not to hit off-center.

Do you have any of those sets of Security bits? (typically run around $8)

They contain the bits for those Triwing screws.

HF may carry them, I know other places have.
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

Thanks for the tip. I have to look for one. Sony wants $138.00 to replace the battery. Can you imagine. I asked LOML why she would buy something that the battery couldn't be replaced. She replied that they are all like that. She is sort of blond. It's like you buy a Chevy and if the battery dies, you send the car back to GM.

            you won't be sorry

(unless the screws in your battery packs are buried 1 1/2" in a hole that the driver doesn't fit into )
If it ain't broke.. don't fix it!!!... but you can always 'hop it up'

The "Y" screws on the back are flat head type only slightly recessed, maybe 1/32" or less. I don't know about inside. It's a ripoff IMO to put out a product that is set up like this. Anyway, that security tool kit you linked looks like a good idea.

yeah, I didn't think your screws would be buried, that last comment was personal edumacation from when I tried to disassemble my Sears Pro battery packs.

Found out they use the security type torx screws and bury them in a real small fairly deep hole. I've got the driver bit that'll fit them, just don't have any way of driving it that deep in the hole.

Seems like they always find a way to get ya

Once you figure out the screws, it should not be hard to get a battery:
