    Marketing by the automobile industry

For the most part, is the automobile advertising on TV, responsible advertising? We're bombarded every day with advertising for cars where they are driven by professionals. Is the younger generation influenced by the cars going from zero to sixty in ____ seconds like we see on TV? Does it influence younger drivers to drive like there's no tomorrow? Could this kind of advertising be the basis of a huge lawsuit because it influenced a bunch of kids who drove recklessly, and were killed in an accident? This type of advertising is among my top peeves.

I don't agree with you, or disagree with you. I know were you are coming from.

I do know that I watched Wiley Coyote go over that cliff many of times and survive, I have never thought I could go over a cliff and live. I watched Buggs Bunny stick his finger in the end of a gun so it wouldn't explode. I have never thought of even trying something like that. I have seen other movies that showed various things, I never wanted to try them.

I just wonder how much blame we put on the media, when really it's us to blame?? I do think the media blows things out of proportion sometimes
(ok more often the they need to). But it is us as a society that is really to blame.

The news always shows negative things, then why do we watch it? Because we like to see them. As much as we hate it we still like to watch how bad someone has it, it make us fell better.

Same feeling here, you can't blame a commercial for what kid may or may not do. If that was the case movies like Too Fast and Too Furious would have a lot more bearing on their behavior than a Ford or Mitsubishi commercial.

I didn't grow up around the movies or commercials we see now and I still knew how fast dad's vette would reach 60+ mph, with or without a commercial I found out for myself.

I think they should change that to "zero to sixty dollars of gas in ____ minutes"

There is a line between reality and fiction. A toon character does not associate with anything real. Even with movies, those old enough to be able to drive cars (not necesserily old enough for license), have some idea that special effects filming is not real driving. Besides, they figure that if they get family car to a condition in which cars usually are after movie chases....

But a commercial is far more anchored in reality. It is supposedly a real guy in a stock car, putting it through its paces - and the car looks none the worse for wear. Not all commersials mind you - I am sure no teen will try to drive a Ford Edge along some balcony railings. But about every teen who just learned how to make a turn styles himself a pro driver.
