I have bought reconditioned tools in the past without reservation. No problems out of the ordinary.

I bought my PC pancake air compressor with two nail guns and also my Makita impact driver refurbed and both purchaases were very substantial savings, same warranty, and looked / worked perfectly. I picked them up at Tyler Tool ... they have a big refurb section on every brand name.

I would do it again in a heart beat as my trigger broke on the impact driver (I dropped it) and they fixed it for free no questions asked.

It would definitely depend on the cost savings, but I am mostly inclined to purchase a new tool rather than a "reconditioned" one. But, in my particular area, reconditioned tools are primarily found at Home Depot or at the annual Cummins visit.

With Cummins I haven't seen anything that is worth the difference. I seem to recall Ryobi tools marked down $10 to $20 (with a 1-year warranty) under what I could buy it at Home Depot for (with a 2-year warranty). With that little difference, it simply isn't worth it for me. At least with Cummins, the tools look factory fresh and I suppose that more expensive tools would offer a more significant savings.

However, the "green-labeled" tools at HD that are offered as "reconditioned" are sort of a joke. They are rarely more than 10 or 15% off the regular price and most of these tools look like they were recovered from the landfill. When I see the HD web site offer "reconditioned" tools, my first thought is what I've seen in the store.... NO THANKS! Hopefully the rest of the "reconditioned" market offerings are much different.

I will usually buy new tools unless the recon are much cheaper, although I have been really happy with my pc 423mag that was bought for $45.

I am more interested in either new tools or so called broken tools especially the ones that can be bought and fixed for 5 to 10% of new.

You're right...I guess I don't really consider those "deals". The ones I've bought have been from CPO Bosch/Porter-Cable or Tool King. Besides the small "reconditioned" sticker or stamp, they have all looked brand new and carried original warranties.
