I'm sure the title to this thread was well intended. It's not a happy occasion for me or anyone who lost someone in service to this country. It's a day for remembering and reverence of those that died in military service, and solace for their loved ones.Comment

Yeah Happy is probably not the best word to use to describe this holiday so I'll just say have a good holiday and sometime today please stop for just a moment to remember what this holiday is all about. God Bless America! and all of her fallen. Oh damm I just knew I was going to do this. Big sissy.May you die and go to heaven before the Devil knows you're dead. My Best, MacComment

I went to a Memorial Day service/celebration in our town this morning. It was great and moving. Thanks fellows, for the freedom that we have! It is a responsibility that is not taken lightly and should never be taken for granted!Hank Lee

Blessed is the word I use.
Blessed Memorial Day to all as I sit and remember (Memorialize) the brethren I lost this last year.Mike Scheller

Mike,
No disrepect meant, but I just got to agree with Cab. Today is anything but happy, especially if you've been in combat and even more so if you lost some of your brothers.
As I mentioned earlier in another thread, Rest well my brothers, for words can not convey your sacrifice to this country

"All gave some, Some gave all"
I honestly don't think I've ever heard better words to describe this day. (They're the lyrics to a song by Billy "Achy Breaky Heart" Cyrus believe it or not, and are very appropriate)
Unfortunately the meaning of the day is lost on many.Mike

You are right on this. We often mix a little of "Veterans Day" honoring with Memorial Day remembrance. I couldn't thank a Viet Nam vet enough yesterday who walked with a limp to the podium where he spoke and we remembered fallen freinds and family.
Memorial Day is about those that gave their lives but we still cannot separate that from those who lived and were wounded beside those who died. It is also VERY hard to separate Veteran's day from the memory of those who died because life and death struggles were so totally intetwined. A part of those who lived - died with those that died; and those that died, did so - not only for our country - but for those who stood beside them and lived.Hank Lee
