I have seen some of those competitions where horses do things like that and being a country girl and working in a "horse camp" with some great instructors and from asking questions I found out that most of the things that horse was doing is from the riders feet and hands on the reins.

It is very amazing to watch.

A routine called "dressage", maybe translated into horse dancing. Anyone ever seen the horses called "LipaZons" (probably spelled wrong) anyway a centries old horse training system in eastern Europe, called the Royal LipaZons. Most horses are at leasst if not more smart than the human on their backs.

IIRC there are only two breeds of horses that will do dressage, its been bred into them for centuries.

I really enjoy watching cutting horses work, especially the style where there is no input allowed from the rider. its not showy but the training is still pretty intense.

Around here cutting horses are a big thing. At rodeo time here, Labor Day weekend, there used to be a night at the rodeo grounds where they did draft horse pulling and cutting and other things for entertainment. There was a gentlemen by the name of Ward Hobbs who had a beautiful horse named Boskie Boy and he would put on an exhibition after the main cutting competition. He would take the bridal and bit totally off if his horse and walk in, and let the horse work. I remember watching this horse so intent on working the cattle that he would slip and fall, not hurting himself, and get back up and keep doing what he was trained to do.

Truly amazing horse and rider who have now since passed on. But something that I will always remember.

We've seen that act in person a few years ago at our annual Rodeo. Great lil cowboys!
