    Put Peanut Butter On It

It's as if it's not good enough the way it is. We have experimented with a variety of pressed bones and rawhide bones for our German Shepherds. They like them the way they come, but lose interest after a while.

When the bones get gummy and gooey on the end, that's when they get into the eternal chew. But, we press peanut butter into the end and it makes them ravenous from the start. Even when they have ignored an older dried up bone, the peanut butter makes them go at it again.

Do you have a dog that has a favorite treat? Any tricks for your treats?

My little Yorkie-Bichon (RaggyBoy) will commit genocide for one of these treats. He gets one after going outside in the morning for you know what and another when his Momma gets home from work. Acrobatics, panting, sitting, rolling over, you name it and he'll do it to get one of these treats. Pretty healthly too. He gets a dental chew bone during dinner so he won't bug us for food.

Our lab will do just about anything for his ball and/or a game of fetch. The other one is a lab/chow mix and I haven't found a 'must have' for her yet.

Our German Shepherd (long gone, now) also loved peanut-butter. I get a good dolup on my finger and stick it to the roof of his mouth and rake my finger against his upper teeth to get it of my finger. He looked silly with the constant licking. It took a while for him to get it off but he loved it and begged for more. I still get a little misty when I see his picture.

My boxer mix eats the 10" version of the bone you pictured in about 2 hours. he is take-it-or-leave-it about anything else but he becomes OCD about bones!

putting peanut butter in a "kong" is entertaining. the dog will try to lick it out for hours.

My shepherd loves her peanut butter too. We fill her "Kong" with treats and peanut butter when we go out. We make her stay in the kitchen while we hide it in the living room. She has fun finding it and goes all silly when she finds it.

Our male Standard Poodle loves ice cubes. He stands right next to you whenever you go to the freezer.

Both the male and female love a new brand of dog biscuit and soft treat from a company called Blue Dog Bakery. They are both 12 and have never shown great enthusiasm for "cookies" until now.

Grapefruit or apple slices, and whenever he could get it, the empty cup from yogurt.
But right now I've give him a steak bigger'n him if he was still around.

I had a friend who had a dog (both deceased) that loved the extra large tied rawhide bones. The dog would lick them till they got soft enough so he could untie them and then look out. He would pick up what was now a wet rawhide towel and head whip the thing back and forth. Getting hit in the leg with it hurt.

On a more serious note it is not good to let them have those rawhide bones for extended periods of time. My last dog, a collie, wore down his back teeth chewing on those things. I had to stop giving them to him.

German Shepherd + pills + peanut butter. Works every time.

Our Lab mix (no clue the mix) will bypass any food and I mean any food to play fetch. If I have a ball or Frisbee in hand he forgets anything and everything but the ball or Frisbee. Have to watch it when I play he would chase it until he drops dead. I stop every now and then to let him rest and/or get water, I have to put the item up somewhere and walk away from it before he will realize I'm not going to throw it while he's not looking.

He likes raw hide sticks, if they have knotted ends he won't touch them. I can cut a knotted rawhide bone in half he's all over it until he gets to the knot, then it just lays around forever.

Might have to try putting peanut butter in the knotted end.
