    Olive Wood Woodworking

A glimpse in the process of making olive wood products in a small shop just out side of Bethlehem

I'm amazed he has his fingers. Still it's impressive what can be done with almost nothing if there's a will.

I did notice his eyes were always on the point of contact with the blade. He was oblivious to everything around him.

That is absolutely amazing! Would it be safe to say he might be a little too comfortable with his craft?

Do you know about kickback? Ray has a good writeup here... https://www.sawdustzone.org/articles...mare-explained

I did notice that, no distractions at all. I'm sure that is the only reason he's got all his digits undivided and complete attention to the task at hand. My fears would be both over familiarity and wood failure.

Watching the video, I saw all kinds of discs hanging in the back ground. From a burnishing wheel, to what looked like a wire wheel and various grinding wheels. Any idea how hard/soft olive wood is, because I think he is using one of those fiber wheels I saw so many years ago? A lot less damaging then a saw blade.

That is probably why he still has his fingers.

I think I saw the red line painted on his "table"

Seriously, the way he's working the wood, he has almost zero chance for kickback or much of anything else that would pull his hand into the blade. And his attention is the kicker. And I bet he doesn't work when he's tired.

Then again, maybe his saw is equiped with sawstop?
