Looks a bit like a nursery web spider... If it has two eyes bigger than all the others it may be a wolf spider.

The following was hoisted wholesale from the spiderzrule.com web site. The picture on that web site shows the type of spider in your post.

Nursery Web Spider in the Pisaurina genus

These spiders resemble the Wolf Spiders (Lycosidae), but have a different eye pattern. Pisaurids have their eyes arranged in 2 rows, the posterior row slightly recurved, the median eyes in the second row slightly (if any) larger than the others. (Wolf spiders have eyes arranged in 3 rows). The egg sac is carried by the female under her prosoma, held there by her chelicerae and pedipalps. Before the eggs hatch, the female attaches the sac to a plant and then bulds a web around it -- and stands guard nearby. The Pisaurids forage for their food and build webs only for protecting their young.

My next guess would be the rare and elusive Greater Mississippi Death Spider, also called the North Central Ohio Spider of Terror -- they typically domicile in the Southern Shrub of Peril and are know to take joy rides on the ends of returning tape measures.

Being from Mississippi, it looks like a normal spider to me!

I am surprised that our Texas friends haven't claimed it yet for its size, unless it it too small for them!

If I found it in my yard, it would be a dead spider.

NO!!! Do you have any idea how many mosquitoes that thing eats a day? Send him to live in my yard.

I have gone to great lengths to teach my kids the difference between "good" bugs, and "bad" bugs.

Mine to! I'd stomp it twice just to be sure. I'll leave the skeeters for the dragon and damsel flies!

I don't like spiders, but I prefer not to kill them. Only exceptions are recluse and widows.

Just imagine if people would snuff you out just for looking big, scary, or creepy?

I do not know, a big ugly spider.

Crash, just how close are you to North Columbus? I don't want you bringing that thing to my area to drop it off.
