    Darwin Award Nominee

I had to watch this twice. First time I was so flabbergasted at how he starts the saw that I missed his total lack of cutting technique. And I will only say his little girl is sitting there with him.

Scary for sure. But I probably would have done that many years ago - before I knew better! It's a wonder I am still in one piece.

      Can't be a Darwin nominee

He failed to remove himself from the gene pool. Too bad...

        Should not have children

Too bad his parents could not use retroactive birth control. Is his last name Goldberg?

I've seen this before posted here... That guy is really stupid. I find it ironic that he talks about how safe he's trying to be with his mask...

Not stupid -- just ignorant. Unless of course he knows better, in which case he really is stupid. He probably just needs to read or be taught a bit about saw safety. I think he'll probably learn from the comments to his video!

No, he's stupid. I'd probably try starting my saw like that. Once. For grins and giggles - after that I'd replace the start cap. And my daughter would not be there. And I would not be wearing sandles when I did this - too easy to slip and lose a toe.

Nice. 3 minutes to turn the saw on to make a 20second cut..

Personally, I find it easier to start up the table saw if you remove both the the blade and the belt first. Get the motor spinning up with one foot, then while holding the power switch with your nose, attach the belt with your other foot and carefully affix the blade with your hands just a fraction of a second later. You probalby don't have any lights on while you're doing this, so hold a flashlight under your armpit -- or better yet, have your 6-year-old hold up a torch -- they work wonders at clearing dust clouds!

I'm with the previous poster...nice how he makes a show of "safety" with the whole mask thing at the beginning, then proceeds with the cut with no goggles, etc.

My general rule for anything with a motor on it is, "if I have to start it by hand spinning the motor while holding the belt with pliers, it probably needs a little more work".

Makes you wonder how much of our cost of power tools is to cover liability for "craftsmen" like this. Unfortunately, if something would have happened (and thank God it did not), while we would have looked at it as a foolish mistake, there are lawyers that would portray him as am "innocent victim" and expect compensation for his experience with this "inherently dangerous and unsafe product".

Plus the idiot uses both the rip fence and the miter gauge
I HOPE the little girl was moved before the cut she was right downwind of the kickback that would have happened had he cut a piece a tad bit longer then the one he did
I DO see why the awards were created

Frankly I laughed my a$$ off seeing him start the motor with his foot, and when I see he has filed this video-clip under 'comedy' category, I am sure that's what he intended it to be. Unsafe? Sure, but not much more than than many other, real situations I have noted that were not even intended for humor.

And yes, I am positive his daughter was not even around at this stage (she's only seen when he starts build his saw).

It was correctly pointed out that we do not know his daughter was there while he was doing this. It was also pointed out that this was posted under comedy. I'd be inclined to take this much more lightly except for the improper cutting technique. That is one of the most basic cuts that he screwed up. That implies he has little or no training and will do something that gets him hurt sooner rather than later.

I'm curious about the on/off switch. He had to walk behind the saw to turn it off.
Wonder how that works in an emergancy?

This doesn't make it right, but in fairness and FWIW ... David Marks, on WoodWorks, sometimes makes crosscuts with his crosscut sled using the rip fence as a stop. And when's the last time we've seen a TV woodworker use a blade guard or splitter?

Again, I'm not saying this makes this fellow on YouTube any safer, but we have to concede that a lot of people come by their bad habits honestly....
