    CL scammers

Dirty scam artists are ruining my favorite place to buy used tools. Check out this email I got with respect to something I posted on CL.

    "hello
I will like to know if the above item is still available for sale
will like to buy this item so please do withdraw the advert from
Craigslist. I will also like you to know that i will be paying via
check due to the distance as i am located in Florida.I will need you to
provide me with the following information to facilitate the mailing of
    the check.
    1.Your full name
2.Your mailing address be it residential or postal address
    3.Your phonenumber.
**Once again ,I will like you to know that you will not be responsible for
    shipping
i will have my mover come over as soon as you have cashed the check**
    have a nice day. "

I got that email on an item I had listed.
My reply was that I would only except a check from a bank that had a local branch and to send me the name of the bank for verification before I'd commit to the transaction.
That was the last I heard about it and ended up selling my item locally for cash.
    Opinions are like gas;
I don't mind hearing it, but keep it to yourself if it stinks.

I have received similar messages. 'Delete' button works well!

Got a reply something like that when I advertised an apartment on CL a while back. Was new to CL at that time. Person went so far as to send me phony money orders to prepay for 6 months of the rent and I was suppose to send him back the overage. After not cashing or sending anything back, he actually called me on the phone demanding his overage. I told him I was notifying the FBI and the phone went dead.

I have received a number of those scam emails. I send a copy with all headers to the email provider e.g. abuse@noemail.com and many times the scammer has his account closed because of the terms of service rules.

So far I have gotten 10 scamers to lose their accounts. I get an email from the provider saying that steps have been taken against that account. They are careful about what they say in the letter.

They were all different; names, email address, IP provider and the messages were not all the same. One thing, the item was never mentioned by name.

Shessh! You didn't include a banner in your ad like "I AM A COMPLETE IDIOT, PLEASE RIP ME OFF" did you?

LOML and I were planning to sell some stuff on CL, but I'm not sure I want complete strangers coming to my house to see what I've got (like the XXL doggie door in the back that any idiot could get in through.) When I used to reload and we would have a garage sale, I'd cover my bench and equipment up with a tarp (plus anything else we didn't want people to know about), partly so I wouldn't get 500 questions asking if it was for sale, but mostly so as not to tip off strangers that there were guns in the house.

I have sold tons of stuff on Craigslist.

I generally meet the people in my driveway (garage door closed) - or at a local parking lot somewhere. Cash only.
I've never had a problem (yet).

The thing that really annoys me is are all the "no shows". For heaven's sake - if you say you are going to buy it, and are going to come get it - if you change your mind, or whatever, a simple courtesy call or email would be nice!

I got ripped off by a CL buyer too..

I advertised my riding mower for $300.. Worked out a time to meet and do the deal after work...

The guy shows up an hour early knowing I was still at work..
Told my wife we agreed to $200, loads up and takes off before I got home.

Wouldn't return my calls, never heard from him again.

                      2nd ones I hate are the re-sellers.

I mzde a good deal to a guy on a local reef aquarium forum on a 90 gal tank, stand and hood.. Busted by butt to get it all together and helped him load up because he needed it right now...
2 days later it's on Craigs List for double what I sold it for.

Then there's the no shows, low ball offers. "I just want this part" , People who can't/won't read detailed descriptions.. I could keep going..

Sometimes I just give up and out it out on the sidewalk with a Free sign..
