    Planet Earth

Hey, have you all seen the Planet Earth series on Discovery channel? It's pretty impressive -- some of the shots are just amazing. It's a documntary series, one hour per show on things like oceans, deserts (on now), jungles, etc. Some of their camera work is just breathtaking... The music reminds me of the Lord of the Rings sometimes, though...

Yes, it is absolutely amazing, especially in HD. 5 years filming and they didn't take any shortcuts. The clarity the best we have seen, well except for Sunrise Earth. Planet Earth has already had several shots of never filmed species and never filmed in the wild species.
The episode last night of caves was one of the best IMO. The crystaline structures in that 'secret' cave in N.M. left me speechless.

I was home early one afternoon and just happened to catch Oprah (yeah yeah, let the shots fly) pushing this show. They were explaining how some of the camera work was done. As a demonstration they had Oprah standing on the roof of a building talking about the show, as they began to zoom out she was explaining that this new camera would allow footage to be shot from well over a MILE away.

That said, I've been meaning to watch this show, but for the life of me I can't seem to remember when it's on ..... Guess I'll have to set an alarm or something to remind me.
If it ain't broke.. don't fix it!!!... but you can always 'hop it up'

I've only seen the cave episode and was very impressed with the program. I didn't see it in HD either.

In that program they had some divers squeezing through crevices (spelling?) and I was thinking NO $^#&ing WAY! You have a limited supply of oxygen so you not only run the risk of running out, but you could damage your equipment as well. I appreciate the work they do to produce these programs but I wouldn't risk it.

We've recorded everyone so far. They are great and my 4 yo loves watching them. A little bit of explaining when someone gets eaten though.

the pictures are amazing on my 10 year old TV, I couldn't imagine in HD with one of those new fangled TV gizmos.

Another "thumbs up" for Planet Earth, even though I've only seen parts of it.

Well those new fangled giZmos in HD make the program just outstanding. Watched some on an old analog TV and then watched the rest on our new HD. You are practically THERE! Got to give the camera crews a "thumbs up" for outstanding work.
