    Naming Your Vehicle

I was watching the news on TV this AM and an ad for Chevy Tahoe came on. If I caught the ad correctly, they talked about the new technology available with the vehicle to actually EMAIL a monthly diagnostic on the condition of the vehicle, to a designated person.

I'm not surprised that they have come up with something like this and made me wonder how I would designate the sender. I'm asking for advice here because when I open my mailbox, what name would I want as the sender of that data. So it calls for naming my vehicle. I would have to give it some name because I think it's too impersonal to have a loved one called a number.

So, put your thinking caps on and help me out with some suggestions you come up with for your vehicle. Describe your vehicle and a name you feel is appropriate.

Hey, that's my truck! My '97 Dakota only has 151k, and I was thinking she was about done. Maybe there's a few more miles left in her after all.

btw, has yours developed four unexplained equidistant dents on the roof?

Back to the OP: Although Thom's name is certainly apt to my truck, as well as Darn Old Dirty Gas Eater, I've never actually named a car. If I did, I'd best call her something nice, in hopes she'll keep chugging along until I can afford a new one.

I can't help with your name, but mine is an 87 Silverado in severe need of a paint job. It was black, but is now a mix of that and primer. I call it Tar Baby.

Mine is a '97 Buick LeSabre. I'd call it DUD because maybe I'd get a laugh every month from the report.

A conversation overheard in 'Max Payne' videogame between two bad guys:
Bad Guy 1: Geez, can you beleive that? Those guys give NAMES their guns. They probably even sleep with them!
Bad Guy 2: Umm.... you don't have a name for your gun?
Bad Guy 1: Nope! Are you saying you do? Well lets hear it!
Bad Guy 2: Err... Umm... Well.... It's... DICK JUSTICE!!!
Bad Guy 1: I rest my case.

I am more of a Bad Guy 1. But my wife at times tends to call our '05 Honda CR-V 'Swallow' (meaning the bird).

We have presently decided that we need something bigger, so we are trading in and getting a Pilot. Wonder what she will come up with for that one.

Currently we have a 2000 Plymouth Neon, 48k Named Gilbert (as in the Grape). The Chrysler folks called the color cranberry. I used to drive large 70's Ford (Fix Or Replace Daily) station wagons usually refered to as "The Barge".

My first car was a 56 Chevy and the only car I ever named. It was called Mule, because most of the time it was too stuborn to run, or at least too stuborn to get me much more than half way to my destination, unless it was to school. It only broke down once going to school, but that was when it was about 5 below zero.

Well, if it is indeed a Tahoe, then I think Claude would be a fitting name.

The only 2 cars ive ever named in my life was a 91 Lincoln Continental that I aptly named "The Limo" and a 96 Escort Wagon that I (also aptly) named "The Weinie Wagon" My wife HATED that car, said it wasn't me, I tend to think CHEAP when it comes to vehicles, she tends to think the opposite. 93 Ford F150, ~220K miles, no muffler, seriously deteriorating paint (2 tone now: red and primer gray), more dents than you can shake a stick at, half the dashboard lights work, no heat, plenty of AC, likes to overheat. Other than that it's in great shape. I call it "Red".

I bought a new Ford pickup in 1972 and drove it for 26 years before selling it. A guy at work gave it the name Blue Goose and it stuck. Even after I sold it friends and family were always saying to me " I saw the Blue Goose the other day " In 2000 I bought another blue truck and referred to it as the Blue Goose and my daughter told me it didn't sound right as there would always only be one Blue Goose.

My first named car was a green 1968 Buick Riveria, named "The Green Latrine" after the green Buick mentioned in Guare's House of Blue Leaves. My current car is a 94 Suburban I call "The Enterprise" because it's white and black and big as a Space Shuttle.

My wife's '01 Montana is named "Monte."

Every year we name the Christmas tree "Laslo."
