    Oh Happy Day

Had a physical this week. Last one was 3 yrs ago apres kids. Back then BP was 115/62, body fat was 13% (my doc didn't believe it the first test) and I could run a 10k course in 46 minutes.

This physical: 136/78, I ain't tellin what body fat was and today I ran a 5k in 27 minutes and d@mn near passed out at the end. I knew it was bad but not THAT bad.

No more beer, sweets, pizza, etc. Only 1 coffee a day (that will hurt the most) and I guess I watch what I eat better than I have been. That and exercising again and in 2 mos or so I will be back in the game.

OTOH, I am married to a physical therapist/dietician/personal trainer who hasn't nagged or said 'I told you so'. At least not yet. So I got that goin' for me.

I've always been in pretty good shape, and became more aware of physical demands during my Army tour. Also doing physical work for a living keeps one in tune, except for the inherent hazards of solvents, vapors, dust, etc., which eventually got to me. So, since I didn't totally self destruct, I had to change my lifestyle.

Years ago when I felt indestructable and fancied myself as a tough guy, I figured out what I wanted engraved on my headstone:

    WHAT ARE YOU LOOKIN' AT?

But since then, my wife has been on my case about eating and living healthy to the point of complete diet changes and mandates. So, I feel I have to change my headstone to read like this:

HERE LIES CABINETMAN. TO BE HEALTHY, HE GAVE UP ALL THE GREAT FOODS HE LOVED AND DENIED HIMSELF THOSE FEW PLEASURES THAT MADE LIFE WORTH LIVING IN HIS LAST YEARS.
