Someone posted a Craigslist ad offering everything on the property for free. Problem? It wasn't their property.

It's not different than putting an ad in the paper. It would be hard to stop. Now prosecuting someone for do it, depends on how well they covered their tracks.
Does Home owners insurance pay for something like this?
The article says it was a rental property that was vacant, lot of stuff there for being a vacant rental property, even one fully furnished. I thought I even saw clothes laying around.Ric

Unless they reviewed every listing before posting it I'm not sure how they could prevent this from happening again. If it was pulled down quickly it may keep it from getting out of hand but you wouldn't need that many people to come knocking to do some damage.
At least it was a empty rental and not a home someone was living in.Comment

Since this happened in my state I've been able to get local news coverage of it.
What really annoy's me is that CL said they would not disclose the posting person's identity without a court order. It seems to me that this makes them a co-conspirator in the thefts. It also greatly undermines their crediability in my book. How does one trust any ads they list to be on the level if CL is un-cooperative in the prosecution of those with criminal intent and actions.
It seems to me that a reasonable person would reading the ad be skeptical at least.Donate to my Tour de Cure
