    Other Than Woodworking Forums

I was wondering with such a diverse group here what other types of forums are visited if any. My first type of forum was suggested to me by a friend who is an ardent political freak and suggested that I go there to see what it was all about. That got me hooked on forums. Then I thought how about trying woodworking? So I did.

After that I got interested in some military forums which are very interactive. I had a lot of good and bad times in the Army and have the utmost respect for those individuals showing interest in serving.

After LOML wanted to set up an aquarium, went on some aquarium forums to get some help with different problems. We now have 3 aquariums.

A friend of mine was in the process of having a mobile home moved from a rental lot to a property he purchased, so we both went on a forum dedicated to mobile homes to get inside info from those that have "been there, done that".

I have at least 100 reel to reel tapes and many LP's from the 60's that I wanted to transfer to CD's. So I went on a few Audio type forums to find out the best and easiest way to do the process and which software works the best.

Had problems with my truck, and went on to an automotive forum for help. I must say, you can specifically get a forum for the exact vehicle you are looking for. Very helpful, and again, from people who have "been there, done that".

Almost forgot this one, and had to edit it in here is a roofing forum (don't laugh) when we had problems with our roof. It was very helpful when I built a shed.

What impresses me is the informality and variety of experiences that offer information and help. Have any of the members here tried other forums?

I'm looking for a good digital photography forum. I'm really tired of my current one.

I never looked on any forums until about 6 or 7 months ago. Other than BT3C, I've got memberships on boards about fishing and smoking meat (two other recent hobbies). No question, I've made more decisions to purchase equipment based on information I got from BT3C. (The others have been very helpful as well). I think I was much better informed about buying the WW equipment because of this board!

For your wife huh. Maybe you should have. Sewing ain't no sissy thing. I sewed patches on my boy scout uniform and merit badges, sewed on patches on my Army uniform, learned how to sew up epidermis for just in case field injuries, and sewed up turkeys for Thanksgiving. Sewed up plenty of knee holes in jeans from workin' on the shop floor, and router holes in my Nahm Abrahms plaid longsleeve shirt I wear in the shop on cold days.

I might just try a sewing forum. Maybe I can find out how to quit sticking the needle in my fingers (can't find thimbles large enough).

I used to visit a site on photo restoration, centered around Photoshop (like we are centered on the BT3*). I learned a lot there, but I'm far from being an expert.

Genealogy sites were others I frequented. Learned all about Sam Spade tactics.

I am not a big fan of forums (too much navigating around) and much prefer mailing lists, so for the longest time BT3Central was the only forum I visited. Only recently I started checking out a digital photography forum for Canon S3-IS cameras. It went down the same day BT3central did! That was a long weekend...
