This bothers me

We had a murder in a nearby town, about a week ago. The newspaper printed 2 stories (about 5 days apart) related to it. The articles say there was a young male musician, and a female 18 year old stripper who are charged with killing another guy. Why do they feel it is necessary to put it in the paper that the girl was an 18 year old stripper? This does nothing but add more grief for her family. Just because she made a bad decision about stripping, doesn't mean that she came from something other than a good family. I never heard of these people, but it's just that I see this kind of stuff printed in the paper all the time. When people have to live with things they would rather not live with, they shouldn't be subjected to additional hurt just because someone wants to sell a newspaper. Whenever I see things like that in the paper, I think of the victims. Not only the loved ones of the person(s) killed, but all the others who love someone who is charged with a crime. There are typically a lot of victims involved in something like this, and I just don't think it's right to print every negative thing you can find about someone. O.K., I'm done now.

I know what you are talking about. Sometimes they bring things up from someones past that was a one time thing. The media will zoom in, and lock onto 1 item sometime, and ignore everything else. Sometimes that one item is so small when compared to everything else.

But then again you have to take into account they are in the bussiness to sell papers. The more they sell the better. The adds they sell to bussiness are based on how many papers they sell. How can they sell more papers, any way they can.

It seems if there is a twist to the story to add some spice, it goes in. So, the moral to the story is don't do anything out of the ordinary that can be stuck on ya later.

Actually, we are all strippers. She just did it in front of other folks for money.
You never know, she may have related that to an investigator or reporter in an interview and may be proud of it.
It's more likely as you guys are talking about though. Dug up and aired out to sell papers.

Well, if they listed the man's profession (a musician), then why not list the woman's? Not sure why they had to say she was 18, though... That must be for the sizzle. Soome like they often list the profession (stock broker, postal worker, etc.) but I'm not sure why...

What bugs me more is when important information is left out of a description -- "This extrememly dangerous armed robber is in your neighborhood and is described by several witnesses as not-too-tall and not-too-short, large but not fat, with nice eyes, a pleasant voice, and expressive body art." Uh... gender? race? anything? Or is that just too un-PC?

Does it matter what your profession is once you murder someone?
