I am really sorry to hear this. I know some of how you feel. When I was a teenager one of our dogs -my favorite got cancer.

Been there Mike - twice. Not dogs but cats. One 3 years ago and the (forum) famous Woodley on February 10 - after 15 years Still keep remembering his little quirks - daily.

The pain wont go away but it does ease over time.

You and your family have my deepest sympathy.

The "good" news is that when it has to happen, it's VERY fast - about 3 seconds!

He has eaten a fair amount tonight (his favorite foor, fried fish) and seems to be holding it down well. Tomorrow, my busiest day of the month at work(that I can't take off) is going to be **** on earth. I'm taking Tuesday off to go back to the vet. I want him to fight his way through this and win, but I'm not selfish enough to let him suffer. It will kill me, but when the time comes, I will let him go.

Small glimmers of hope.

Tuesday update.

Lakota ate good portions of fish and chicken both Sunday and Monday nights (his favorite foods). Tuesday we took him back to the vet and checked his blood again. Afterwards he ate another good portion of Rotisary chicken (white meat only, he's being picky).

His BUN on Saturday was 122. Tuesday it was 111. That's a good thing. Doctor says that if it falls to 100 or so (hopefully lower) by Saturday, that he will do a sonogram to look at what he's dealing with (still feels 95% chance of cancer). 5% chance of diabetes.

So far, he is hanging in there. No signs of pain, but he is alittle weak.

Diabetes can make them lose alot of weight by burning the fat reserves and muscles even to make more Glucose.

You have given Lakota a wonderfull life, full of love. Rejoice in that and know that he/she is aware of that.
My loml and I lost a w\great friend two weeks ago and we know what you are going through.
We will keep you and your family, 2 and 4 legged, in our prayers in the weeks to come, and know that it's what you have given him that matters.

Mike, I saw this thread when you started it, and wanted to say something then, but couldn't find the words. I've been exactly where you are now; I know how unspeakably hard it is. Beyond that I still don't know what to say, other than to let you know that like so many others here, I am thinking of you, and of your family, and of course of your best buddy Lakota.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, your familyand Lakota. I too have been in the same position. I co-worker had told be about this product called NCD that was supposed to be effective with cancer and worked wonders for her dog. You might want to do a google search and see if it might be something worth trying.
