    Sometimes...

You just cannot win. I bought a 16 speed drill press at HF on Saturday for $149. Today I get a new flyer in the mail from HF with a 15% off coupon on it for any 1 item on sale or not. Now I face the dilema of for $22 do I return it. Knowing that the one I have now is fairly accurate and take my chances that the next one will be just as accurate. Or do I just lump it and chalk it up to bad timeing and think of something else I might need. What would you do?

Buy a new one with the coupon, then return it using the old sales receipt.

Give them a call and explain the situation. Maybe they'll give you a refund.

Personally I wouldn't go to the trouble of taking it back. I would get something else. I have the same dilemma when I buy from there, the next flier has it on sale.

I would talk to the manager and ask for a price adjustment. I'm pretty sure that you can get it. If not you have 30 days to return it.

Absolutely, just go back to the store with the receipt and the flier and ask. Me and lots of other people have had zero-hassle with HF regarding this kind of thing, and returns in general.

Thanks for the input guys. I will talk to the manager first. Then if that fails I will buy a new one with the discount and return the thing with receipt number one.

I've had that happen a couple of times. Take your receipt and the coupon back. They should give you the difference, worked for me.

Most businesses will give you the price adjustment with in a certain amount of days. I worked a retail store that as long as you had the receipt then you could get the difference back. If the manager is good at his job and wants to keep you as a customer then he will do it.

I once saw a TV interview of some sort of consumer advocate-type person who stated flatly that a store must refund the price difference for any item that goes on sale within 30 days after the purchase. She said that this is not just good store policy, but that it's the law.

The qualifier is that I don't know whether she was talking about a local, state, or Federal law. I think Federal, but don't quote me on that.

Here's the rub though. The item was already on sale. The coupon arrived via snail mail at my house 2 days after the purchase. I got the sale price I just did not get to apply the coupon because I had not received it yet. The coupon does state in the fine print that it cannot be used on prior purchases. If they chose not to allow the additional discount then TheRics suggestion would then be the best course of action.

HF will honor the discount coupon on top of the sale price. I work at harbor freight and see it all day .The customer is always right in that store. Its there policy.
