We're in the middle of the driest winter on record. And that's dry.

Wow, that don't sound very good for this summer. California has had some bad fires lately. May you get rain and cooler weather to help out with the fire danger.

I live in the Silicon Valley area, a couple hundred miles away from the fires, but I can tell you they're part of living out here. We don't have blizzards or ice storms or tornadoes (well, very rare tornadoes) or hurricanes. Instead, we have fires, landslides and earthquakes.

I live beside a creek with big oak trees that could either fall on the house or catch fire. Our roof (soon to be replaced) is made from wood shakes. We have a wood frame vacation home at Lake Tahoe that's surrounded by trees. An insurance adjustor friend calls it a "five minute house" because that's about how long it will take to burn to the ground.
