I will be out of commission - Surgery 03/16/07

I am going to be out of commission for a few days as I have surgery scheduled for 03/16/07. I will be having part of my stomach removed due to chronic peptic ulcers. It is somewhat similar to gastric bypass that is all the rage, but there is no bypass, rather the lower section of the stomach is removed. The lower section generates most of your stomach acid. If you have serious ulcer issues, get on top of them and don't ignore them! I probably could have avoided this with acid reducers and antibiotics. Unfortunately I half-assed treated it for years and have a leak. The good news is that I should be able to get rid of a substantial amount of weight. I have already began exercising regularly and very low fat diet.
So wish me luck! I will be in the hospital for 3-4 days then home all jacked up on oxycotin, so my Amazon fishing will be limited and probably somewhat non-linear!

    Good luck Jeffrey!

I had about a foot of small intestine removed more than 15 years ago--like you, was a stoic too long--and it's amazing how good surgery is these days.

Louis XIV missed daily mass once during the 60+ years he was king of France--on the day of his fistula operation. Now that's stoicism! Not to mention going through that without anesthesia...

Best to ya, Jeff. When they give you that little splash of Versed, be sure to ask for a "to go" order!

And stay away from the power tools while you're loopy... In fact, for your safety and well-being, I'd be willing to use your tools for you while you're laid up...

Jeffrey, as another one of the many who have benefited from many of your posts, I wish you a speedy recovery. Remember, low impact keyboard typing can be therapeutic. Especially when you have a goal, like, say, extremely low priced tools for example. Take care of yourself, we need you back full strength...

Just think how good you'll feel when it's over. Oh, before you pass out in the OR, try to see what kind of clamps they use.
