    Internet Radio

Hope this doesn't violate forum rules, but ...

i like music. So I like internet radio.

    Used to listen to www.pandora.com

    Too many restrictions.

Now I like www.lastfm.com. A little "harder" to use but you can pick / tag what you like.

    Any others?

I like progressive rock, and mostly listen to these:

    http://www.live365.com/stations/canvas4
    http://www.deliciousagony.com/
    http://auralmoon.com/

But that lastfm looks interesting, I will definitely check it out. Thanks!

Better listen to the internet radio while you can. The copyright office with the insistance/approval /backing of the RIAA is going to raise the rates that are charged for playing music on internet radio. This is going to drive the price through the roof for anyone who runs an internet radio station.

That sucks. Radio in the DC Metro area has pretty bad programming and I don't
have good reception at my desk. At work I mostly listen to WXPN.org. They
are a public radio station based out of my alma mater, UPenn, in Philly.

Can someone explain to me how this works? I don't get it. I went to one of these sites about a year ago when someone recommended it. The same thing happened this time that happened last time, the only difference is that this is a different site than the one before.

Here is the problem. It asks you to type in a Artist. I did that. Then a message says to the side: "If you like this artist, you will like these . . .

As to what happened when I typed in an artist, a different artist came up and one of their songs. Same genre, same era but different artist than what I typed in. Before, I typed in a particular song but it gave me other songs by the artist, just not the song I asked for.

What is the point of asking for an artist or specific song if it does not give you either?

          Your explanation is appreciated.

            Hank,

I could be very wrong on this, but I think when you type in a name of an artist, you will get music that fits the style of the one you requested. You might not get the one you want at first, but it will probably come up if you listen long enough. If I'm wrong, I'm sure others will let us know.

Exactly Ed. The sites pick "similar" songs to play. I've never seen one that will play the artist you type in without others. But I can pick the genre I like. I like "modern" country, not the twangy older stuff. So i don't get that played.

And on Lastfm, get to repeatedly reject what I don't want. Pandora wouldn't let you do that - a few rejections, then no more.

Here's what you do, You download itunes form apple.com (free). It works for both macs and wintel machines.

There is a section on the left that will allow you to choose as many streaming stations as you want (again free) except for those that are hosted by Live 365, and most of those are listenable but you have to put up with a ctupid commercial or two.

Try it and let me know if that's what you're looking for. Also most FM radio stations stream their content (free). You can usually connect by using the stations call sign.com (or org.0 if its a college station.

Have to agree with Bruce - I chased individual stations for a while and now use iTunes radio exclusively. Less hassle, good music, lots of choices, great price (free).

You can't choose - but boy, is it an eclectic mix - since I first discovered it, I've been exposed to some great artists. A few I don't care for, a lot I really like - and some "moldy oldies" I haven't heard in years. Worth a listen...

Radio Paridise is definitely one of my favorites.

iTunes is great. I could never really get the hang of Windows Media Player, or Real Player. With iTunes, it just works.

And that is why I am typing on the last Windows PC I'll ever buy -- its a Mac for me in the future.

In WMP Media Guide section, I just click 'Internet Radio' and I can browse 100s of channels. Works for me. Can tag channels as favorites, too. Going by the amount of resources it ties up, iTunes is a bloated piece of junk - or maybe Apple made the PC version that way deliberately.

It's good to have options, I guess.
