My first wheelbarrow (gave to the neighbor, so I didn't have to store two), was a single wheel, metal 6cu foot. I don't walk across inclines, only up or down one (front yard). After helping another neighbor, move and 8' longbed, completely topped with sand, I decided I would add a wheel eventually. I then came across, at my local Sears parts store, a closeout on last years model dual wheel, metal 6cu foot, for $20. I ended up buying them out and selling them for $5 extra (gas was high). In the end, mine was free from picking those up for others, and everyone was happy.

I don't miss the single wheel, and I still have access to it.

I have one just like cabinetman, and also this one:

My Dad has one of those as well. It's funny to see a die hard Buy USA type guy on a Japanese tractor! Of course that is in addition to his Ford 3000 and John Deere tractors.

As anyone who has been to my property knows, I am in middle of few hundred acres of family farm land. I have full access to any machinery that I know how to use (I try to impose limits on myself due to cost of equipment and my general stupidity with heavy machines!).

I love our double wheel metal because it is very sturdy and stable even on a hill with a large load. You can also move a bigger load because you can put all your strength into pushing instead of stabilizing.

One additional plus with the two wheeled ones. You can pull a wheel off, and center the other wheel.

Before I was born my mom bought a old looking all wooden wheel barrel with a large iron wrapped wooden spoked wheel and removable sides for a lawn ornament.

It's been in use for over 30 years and keeps going. Best wheel barrel I ever used. I must have hauled 60-70 cords of fire wood in that thing, it could hold 3 times the amount of wood as my 6 Cu. ft. steel with air tire. That big wheel made it much easier to roll the weight with as well. Needless to say it never made it to the front yard.

Oh yes, forgot to mention yesterday that the wheel barrow is for the LOML. I have a John Deere "Gator"!
