I had been with Verizon for 5 years, before I switched to Sprint about a year ago. The reason I did it is to save $30+ per month. Sprint has terrible customer service, but they will get things done if you know what numbers to call and how to work the system. The Sprint SERO plan cannot be beat in price. That stands for Special Employee Referal Offer. If you go to slickdeals.net and search for SERO, there is a long thread about certain numbers to call to get the right customer service. That is what I am using and get 500 minutes during the day, plus unlimited internet (which is nice on my Treo 700P) for $30 a month. A little more with insurance and taxes and such, but much better than the $70+ that Verizon charges for the same services.

I've had just a good of coverage with Sprint as I did with Verizon. Their network in my area of the counter has muchh improved since I was with them in 2001.
