    Have you looked at yourself?

I looked at my hands today, and was surprised to find so many scars. Most were small being less than 3/4" down to 1/8" or so. There must be at least 50 on my hands and wrists. Take a look at yours. You'll probably be surprised too.

I'm not too bad for little scars (maybe I just heal well?), but I have 2 memorable ones.

One runs diagonally across the last knuckle of my right pointer finger for maybe 3/4" from using a pocket knife as a screw driver in about 3rd grade... As I was not supposed to have said pocket knife of my fathers, I clearly remember my butt hurting worse than the finger once the bleeding finally stopped...

The other is about 4" and quite noticeable across the back of my left hand. I'd like to say it was from a bar room knife fight, or time spent behind enemy lines, but it was actually from a stupid mounting bracket on a dishwasher!

I try not to look at my hands because it makes them upset, and I wouldn't want them to turn on me.

I have a few small scars and a couple of big ones. I am surprised that I have a hand at all in retrospect. Some of the scars were from stupidity, inexperience and youthful exuberance of the moment in using a new tool. One was from an instinctive reaction at trying to save something from breaking.

I did learn from each one to not do THAT again. I did not learn caution for all tools unfortunately.

Guess I'm lucky or not older than Methuselah. I only have 5 scars on my hands. I only remember how I got two of them.

I'm only concerned about the most current one. A guy who works for me was helping me build a deck at work using a framing nailer. I was holding a piece of 2 x 4 for a brace to be nailed to the leg of the deck. (see where I'm going with this) Suddenly he nailed the piece of wood, and the recoil of the nailer kicked it backward, and as fate would have it, it fired again, penetrating my right thumb. "OUCH". The nail went all the way through except for the head of the nail, which remained just under the skin.
So, this is my latest, and to date greatest.

I don't have a whole lot of deep scars.

However, over the Christmas break, I was hustling to finish a couple of cabinets and bookshelves. I looked down and noticed very faint splotches of blood on some maple. I looked at my hands and they had gotten so dry and chapped that they were starting to barely bleed at the knuckle creases.

The Mrs. says I have manly hands. They remind her of her father's hands. They are always nicked or scratched and have mild callous with some scars.

Being an aircraft line mechanic my hands take a beating. Just general abuse and then all the fun chemicals. At my second job I'm a sheetmetal mechanic at a small general aviation repair station. You can imagine what I put my hands throught there.

My crowing achivement was at home two years ago at christmas. I was trying to open a bottle of vanilla extract and the bottle shattered in my hands. I now have a c shaped scar 1" x 1" on my right palm just below the thumb joint right in the meaty part. Seven stiches later and some Vicoden I was in a happy place.

My hands are so abused that many times I don't even feel the new damage. Still can't figure out if that's a good or bad thing.

cute. i shd try and remember that and use it, maybe to my girls

they are the ones who see new scars on my hands (even face or feet or shoulder), and mostly they surprise me when they point out a new one.

and my wife is mystified, "how could you not know when you get scratched or hurt"?

i have realized that it (being unaware of 'mere scratches') adds to my macho image in a house full of females, so am not worried

To limit this reply to nailing injuries, I had a helper staple his thumb to a piece of maple that was about 2' long and about 4" wide. It was such a good tight fastening it wouldn't come loose. Tried to pry the thumb loose, but he was yelling too much. I rushed him to the ER and he had to carry the wood around until a doctor could see him.

To this day I still don't know how this exactly happened, or that I got the truth at the time, but had a helper (not the same one) staple his you know what to a cabinet. Well it was a fairly large cabinet, not one you would want dangling between your legs to go to the ER. So I called for paramedics, and it wasn't really funny, but rather embarrasing to watch them cut off his pants and remove him from the cabinet. I guess all the giggling helped take some of the stress out of the situation.

At first I said "What?" . Then I realized you were talking about the cabinet.
