I watched in HD. Not as good as usual due to the rain, but still pretty nice.

Overall I prefer the 1080i found on CBS and NBC to the 720p that Fox, ESPN, and ABC use.

Much of the quality depends on your local station or the particular program you are watching. My Dish HD channels are usually not as clear as my over-the-air HD channels. In all cases, the 1080i broadcasts have a sharper picture than 720p but are not as good at following fast action. Which makes sense.

Of course, if you have a 720p TV 1080i broadcasts will look worse. But with a 40+ inch 1080 TV, I think the difference is pretty clear.

One thing my over-the-air networks got better at during the course of the season is the transistion from SD commercials to HD programming. But they still switch to SD whenever they make weather announcements along the bottom of the screen. Evidently the technology isn't quite complete yet, but it's still worthwhile.

I'm still waiting for an affordable method to play 1080p media. $1000 for a DVD player is hard to justify, especially if it can't play your current DVDs.

I purchased a new HD 50" plasma, but it wasn't spec. for the SB and anywhere near 3K. I paid $1650 plus tax thanks to the super bowl though.

This reminds me, if you are looking for a killer deal on a big screen HDTV immediately proceed to Circuit City or BB. Open box deals are incredible a few days after the Super Bowl. Believe it or not people buy big TVs for the game and then return them. Great deals to be had!
