    Kirbys Roof

I put this in the shop post but I thought I'd start one just for this.
I sent someone to see why there is no dust in Kirbys shop and they sent back these pics of his roof.

Those are old pictures, didn't you see the 2001 in the lower right corner. He did a major upgrade in 2004!!! The old one just didn't do a good enough job!!

        On the serious side.
Rod how often / when do you clean up?? Every 10 seconds rather it needs it or not? After every cut/ hole drilled?? When you done with that tool? End of the day?? I'm sure it varies, but what IS you routine that keeps your place so clean.

          my bad

This is the upgrade. The underfloor vents go through a 40 foot diameter tunnel and exit here about 2 miles from his shop (to reduce noise).
          The roof ventilation is unchanged.

I believe this is the worlds largest dust remover (some people call them wind tunnels at this size)

OK - "per day", I guess is the general answer.

If I'm working on something, I'm sure I get into as much mess as anyone else - but - I clean up before I shut the Shed. Because I do it that way, it only takes me about 10 minutes.

I should add - I do cleanup as I go - particularly on the Drill press - rather than just brush the stuff on the floor, I'll use a cordless vac - only takes a second.

Yeah - I know - OCD, or as Carole says "anal"

For what it's worth - I know it's my problem, I don't expect anyone else to "work" like I do

A cordless vac and a microscope! My work areas don't look that clean after I vacuum up!

I take those same 10 minutes - I just lump a bunch of 'em together into 45 minutes or so.

Although thinking about it, it takes me ~ 45 minutes to clean the whole shop regardless of how messy it is - sweeping takes the same amount of time irrelevant of how much dust is on the floor. So if you take 10 mins/day 7days a week and I take 45 mins every week I have 25 more minutes of shop time.

You guys shouldn't pick on Rod so much.

                      He deserves it, but still.....

I know why his shop is so clean. He is kidding about the 10 minutes. What happens is that when he starts to work he turns on that new roof vac, it sucks him up to the ceiling, and he can't get down to his tools to make a mess.

                              In Rod's defense...

I also clean up as I go. My shop (and my work) are not nearly as nice as Rod's, but because my shop shares space with all kinds of other stuff, I try to keep the dust down.

This weekend I saw an extreme example of what happens when you let the sawdust accumulate. A local fellow was downsizing his cabinet shop and I was looking for lumber on the cheap. His cutoff shelf had some interesting pieces, but it was an inch thick with sawdust. I probably took ten years off my life with all the dust I ended up breathing while trying to buy a couple pieces of plywood..
