    anonymizer...or something like it

Anyone know anything about those programs that block your IP and ISP info? I'm tired of seeing ads that are specific to my town - like they're lifting my town name from whatever info they get from be just being on their website.

Is there anything I can do on my end without having to buy and/or install software?

    TIA

That doesn't seem to work, unless I'm not doing it right.

This is the type of thing I'm referring to, where it shows you your IP:

I thought there was a way to block ads in Firefox. Either that or there is free ad blocker SW out there - I know I used to block ads.

                Kill those ads - dead!!

                With firefox, go here:

                http://adblockplus.org/en/

and yes, also add filterset G with the auto updater

Then for the annoying flash stuff go here:

                http://flashblock.mozdev.org/

I've been known to glance at a coworkers' screen and walk away muttering - I refuse to live without the above.

There is an adblocker (free) called appropriatly Adblock Plus for Firefox. Should be able to find it on the mozilla extensions website. It is so nice to surf without all those anoying ads and flash clips blinking at you.

                    Use a proxy server.

Sorry I fell in with the adblocker crowd.
The only way your IP address can be annonymized is through the use of a proxy server. How this works is that you send a request for a web site to your proxy server and it gets the site and sends it to you. Alot of ISP's use proxy servers to store information on commonly used web sites so that their customers have faster access to them. The down side is that web sites that are not used very frequently take longer to load.
                    Hope this helps.

                      With firefox

                      tools>options>web features>block popup Windows

Then you can edit which websites that you want to allow popups from.
