Do They Really Work??

Those Power Centre's for stereo's and Home Theatre systems...do they really filter out a lot of noise from household power and cable feeds??

I'm looking at getting a Monster Power Bar/Home Theatre Noise Filter and am wondering if they are really better than a regular surge protector.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I think that was brought up a while ago and I believe they said if you have good power they don't really improve anything. But if you dont they can help. I just have regular surge protectors on everything. Probably spent around $35 on each...

It would probbably be more worth your money to just get a UPS(uninterruptable power supply). They offer better protection than a surge protector and you should no longer be affected by brown outs. Also if I am not mistaken they do some filtering, maybe not to the supposed level of the ones that you are talking about but I still wouldn't think you would need much.

Just make sure you get one that is big enough to drive your AV gear.

Edit: Also if you keep your eye on the local sales flyers you can get find some decent ones pretty cheap. One year I found a good deal at Office Max(or was it Office Depot) where I found them for $20 a pop, when normally they were like $60. I bought a bunch and gave them away as Christmas gifts to my family.

I have a Monster Cable Power system. I bought it when I worked at Circuit City, and I paid $0.40 on the dollar compared to the retail cost.

Prior to that purchase, my TV would develop fuzzy lines whenever my refridgerator or microwave turned on. But once I installed the power center, the lines disappeared. So, I think they're worth it if you can get a good deal.

If you're comfortable with electronics, there are a TON of resources on building your own line conditioner. I would have done that if I didn't have the hook up through work.

Thanks for the help guys. I think I'm going to go for one, but over e-bay. The prices even when you include shipping & duty are far better than retail here in Canada. I'll probably go that way for cabling too.
