Convicted and given the death penalty about 1 month ago and about 30 days later his appeals are up and he's taking the celestial dirtnap. Can you imagine if they executed people that quick and publicly over here? While I'm sure this will spark some debate here, I believe we could learn something from the Iraqis on the subject of this process being a deterrant for criminals. Our justice system may be one of the (if not THE) best in the world but not when it comes to timely justice. When you can live better on death row than you did on the streets (getting 3 hots and a cot, access to books, phone calls, etc..) for 15-20 years after your victims have died at your hands, I say it's time to revamp this process.

news item today was some kid in texas or similar was found dead yesterday by his parents in a hagning. he was 10 years old. they figure he saw saddam hanging and he was acting it out, not knowing the danger. Shrinks interviewed said at 10 he couldn't grasp notions of suicide and more likely was reenacting, the way kids try to be evel knievel or some dumb stuff.

Sad truly sad, and shocking this guy still kills from the grave. man, that's some kind of evil power.

and, btw, who really believes saddam was hung suddenly for kicks and not because we learned the insurgency actually had the juice and cajones to spring him, so before the major embarassment we whispered in someone's ear that now might be the right time.
