    Boxing Day Surprise

My plan was to go to the office early this morning...got out to the car (in the driveway, not the shop) and found half the driver's door window distributed in small pieces on the ground and on the seat.

Too dark to clean it up properly yet, and the family is still snug in their beds (check that, I hear Li'l Dude's patterings), so I'll grumble to you.

Factory head unit shouldn't be tempting, and I don't think I left anything of value in the car, let alone in view, but who knows.

    Happy Boxing Day!

    That sucks, man. On Christmas!

Somebody went down our street smashing windows a couple of weeks ago. I was lucky that time, but it sure did cause us to think.

I hope you didn't lose anything valuable.

A number of years ago when I lived in Toronto, someone, or a group of someone's, broke into a bunch of cars on my street. I lost some cassette tapes and a few other minor things but it really ticked me off. I hope your day only gets better.

A similar circumstance happened to me several years ago. On New Years Eve one of the banks in the downtown area put on a laser light show (for free). Parked my car right on the street in public view, not 100 ft from a church.

Got to car after the show to find a broken out passenger window all over the inside of the car and on the sidewalk. Immediately when I spotted it I looked around to see who if anyone was staking out the scene. That's a chance because they might have wanted to watch the reaction. Had visions of chasing him down on foot like going after fresh kill.

Funny thing, nothing inside was taken. Had an Escort radar detector in plain view that was still there. Called the police, and they took a report and acted very matter of fact about the whole thing. The deductible made filing a claim ridiculous.

I was hoping to catch someone, and that would have made my evening. The only alarm I had was an ignition kill switch and a movement detector. It was more than likely just some kids having their evil ways.

common occurance in DC. If you leave anything (and I mean anything) in view.

Someone broke into my truck once and stole a broken Alpine Headunit. Wish I could have seen their face when they tried to get it to work. The LCD was burned out so only I could work it because I knew what buttons to push. Luckily, they went through my sliding rear window and didn't break any windows.

Later, after LOML, we had a jeep and I told her to never even bother locking the doors. I'd rather them paw through everything than cut the top. That, and if you know jeeps, the windows zip out from the outside.

            bummer

no doubt bored teens doing it for sh*ts and giggles.

Well, the silver lining is that you can now remove the facotry head unit, tell wifey it was stolen, and then get the one you've wanted.

the dark cloud within that silver lining is then you'll have somehting worth boosting.

oh well, try to enjoy the season all the same.

Had my car, and wifes car broken into over the summer (same night). They took only the loose change. Took nickels and quarters (left the dimes) out of my truck, but left gift cards for a couple of big box stores. Took dimes and nickels from my wifes car, left the pennies and quarters.

Well, the glass guy showed up in the a.m., got everything into shape well before lunch, and I got some of the roses cut back in the meantime.

Since I already needed some work done (crack in the windshield), I killed two deductibles in one morning.

I started thinking about what I could have done with that money had it not gone down the vandalism toilet. Then I realized that was illogical. The out-of-pocket hit is sad, but given our careful budgeting, the tool opportunity cost for that money was nil.

So everyone is safe, and the car is repaired. Another Boxing Day Miracle!
