A very special Christmas card

We had 3 dogs, 2 of them female German Shepherds. The other one had to put put to rest at the veterinarian's office, and the other 2 were fighting. They had to be kept seperated. We had the older one for about 5 years, and the younger one since she was about 7 weeks old, about 2 years ago.

Long story, short, we looked for a new home for the older one. Since she was about 7 or 8 years old, we had a hard time finding someone to take her. After 6 months or so of having her picture and a "Free to good home" notice at the vet's, we finally got a call inquiring about her. The woman had grandkids, and she couldn't have a dog that couldn't be trusted around small kids. This was the dog for her! She loves everybody, but she doesn't get along with other dogs. She went to her new home about 4 months ago, and we miss her, but that was the best thing for her. She is a great dog.

As soon as I read your post and scrolled down to the picture, it immediately brought on thoughts of "Miss Sadie". She was a beutiful shepherd and ranked with a dalmation as the gentleless dog I have had. I had to put "Sadie" down about a year (hip problems in old age) or so ago as she was the last dog (6 over the course of 35 years along with 4 cats) I will raise. "Mr. Lucky" the "very" Tom cat and my long time wood-shop foreman had to be put down not long after.

And if you think for one moment that a tear might have rolled down my cheek when I saw the picture, you would be way out in left field. An old "battle hardened" warrior as me would never let that happen as it might falsely portray the image that I might have an occasional moment of normal human emotion!

I've had German Shepherds all my life and they were all rescue dogs. Your story is very endearing, but if I had a GS that could write, I would have put her on the TV show "Pet Star".

Seriously, the gesture was very thoughtful by the new owner.

We've been in contact with the new "Mom" ever since she took our dog. She invited us to her home to see Princess any time we wanted to come. I feel good knowing she takes good care of her animals, and gets visits to the vet routinely. Even though we miss her, we know it's the best possible thing that could have happened all around.
