It's almost funny if it wasn't painful. I was working on the house saturday and grabbed up about a 3' piece of 2x4 to toss onto the garbage pile. I gave it a kind of underhanded toss as I walked by and was startled to see it dead stop as it was about to clear my hand. There was nail in the end of the board bent over along the length of it. It entered my hand about 1/2" below my middle finger and slid up through the finger along the bone. I never even felt it go in. Pulling it out wasn't so much painful as it was a nails-on-a-chalkboard kind of sensation. By GOD, I feel it now though. I guess it isn't just the sharp spinning blades you have to watch out for.

I am sure that does hurt a lot. Hope things heal well for you.Mrs. Wallnut a.k.a (the head nut). -
Ouch and double Ouch!
Make sure your tetanus shots are up to date. You also want to take care that no infection sets in between all those bones in your hand.
Take care and heal.

I got into the habit of wearing these gloves. Double palm leather.
You can't believe the difference. Much safer. Have some Crown Rowal and read some posts and relax while it heals.

I agree 100%!! Believe me after an encounter with a jointer that nearly ate my ring finger away and a 100 splinters later, it's a wise addition to my shop.Chris

Wow, I feel your pain. Years ago I walked through a home construction site, and stepped on a nail in a 2X4, driving it in way deep. Understand that whole eerie painless sensation, but the aftermath is agony.
Here's wishing you a speedy recovery, and now, a lighter tale:
Last week a guy in our office was describing how his daughter's boyfriend cut off the tip of his finger with a utility knife that wandered on him. Took off just about a 1/4" or so. He said it did not hurt, but they took him to hospital to sew it up. He was in a lot of pain later , and taking meds, but doing fine.
Obvious question we asked: "Did the doctor sew the tip back on?"
"Nope, our dog saw it on the floor and ate it" ...

Hope you aren't down and out of the shop too long. The thought of what happened to you gives the "willies" just thinking about it.Larry R. Rogers
