    Snow!!!

Was planning to take my wife up to the mountains for a coupe days since I got to work Xmas, but I don't think it's going to happen. We are really getting a good dusting.
Might just get my white Christmas I have been wanting for 10 years.

Once upon a time Denver was in my sales territory. I remember that whenever it snowed you'd read in the paper that "It's the first time in history that it snowed 4.3" on December 20, so that's why we don't have snow clearing equipment and traffic and the airport are all messed up."

You got to pick the date and the snowfall amount, and just plug them into the statement!

How does Denver not get snow? I'd think it would get a lot of it. Wrong side of the mountain or something?

I was supposed to pick up my mom at the SeaTac airport this evening, but she didn't even get to the airport. Thankfully, she called the airline and found out flights were going to be cancelled. She was able to get her ticket changed to Friday afternoon. Hope they can get the roads and runways cleared by then. She doesn't need to be alone for Christmas

                Hey, we get snow too!

In 2004. Just a brushing and it was gone by eleven, but it counts! Especially since the folks around here close down just about everything, but they sure don't know how to drive on it ...scary!

I heard on the radio that Denver airport is closed. I guess you go tyour dusting, JTimmons. Too bad you guys didn't make it to your getaway before you got clobbered - could have been stranded and had to call off work (just dreaming for ya). Have some fun anyway!

Is it the snow that causes the problem, or is it ice? I was down around Memphis one time when they had just a little snow. But it was almost impossible to drive on the ice underneath.

2004 was a dry snow less than 1/8". No underlying ice. Many accidents 'cause people still drove 70 on the highway. I grew up in Pennsylvania, didn't bother me, but the passers sure scared me, especially when one spun out to the berm right after passing.

But they drive the same idiot way when it rains a little after a long dry spell. The raised oil slick can be just as dangerous.

                        Snow on the Barbie

I'm up in Fort Collins, and it is snowing like crazy! Here is a picture taken earlier -- this is just from snow coming down since morning. And it is still coming down hard. This should beat the bizzard of 2003, and I'm expecting we will have 3 feet by morning.

Note: This message is to discourage any of you thinking about moving here. It is a cold and miserable place ...

Oh it gets snow, since I have been here in Sept, I have seen it snow more times in that period than any where I have been in my life.

I spent about three hours after I posted this in it with a couple of neighbors trying to get people to their front door and that was at about 3:00 PM. Came in and took a nap now 11:50 and good lord its deep and still going strong.
They estimated 18 inches, but it's got to be more than that and I am out on the plains closer to the airport there's no telling what it's like out on the foothills.

The neighbors I was with have lived most of their lives here and said it hadn't done this in about 6 or 7 years and that was an accumilation of 36 inches. One of the neighbors is a mailman, he was sent home and told not to come in Thursday and to call before they come in Friday.

I'm not complaining it's pretty cool, it would have been nice though to be snowed in on the mountain, but I'll settle for home, I ain't got a choice.

As Mildoc said it's the idiots. I lived in Cincy for about 9 years, I'm from about 100 miles north. You wouldn't think there would be much of a difference, but boy is there!!!! When they TALK of snow, school, and sometimes business would close down. The people there would either slam on their brakes at the first sign of a snow flake, or not slow down at all ( I swear they even speeded up).

For those that have not driven in snow, ice, slush (IMHO the worst), you don't know what it's like until you have been there. It's not a spectator sport.

This year is the latest that the Twin Cities has gone without at least 1/2" of snow in recorded history. It looks like we're going to get some finally today. I Like snow. It's needed for all the fun winter activities, and as a bonus it helps keep the riff-raff down south
