    Plumbing!

First, I have to return 20 feet of PVC and fittings cause the instructions for the pump were wrong and it takes a 2" vent not 1.5

Next, LOML decided the washer goes somewhere else so of course all the fittings for the drain and vent need to change for the reroute. Not like electrical where you just pull the cable to the new location.

Finally I was downstairs tonight connecting some of the fittings at the pump. I screwed up not once but twice (after dryfitting correctly several times) and only realized it after the PVC cement was on. I made it work and only need one addtional part but it looks a bit messy.

Plumbing and painting. I hate 'em both. Your project sounds just like the way mine usually go.

And then of course...... there is the carefull dry fitting in the crawl space, glueing all the fittings...... turning on the water...... crawling back down there to check for leaks...... doing a gentle tug on a water line and ......... getting a 40# face full of water...... while trying to figure out if you should shove the pipes back together or try and make it to the shut off valves. There's not many things I hate worse than trying to fix something to do with plumbing. It's a guaranteed 4-5 trips to the parts supplier for me, especially with older house/apartment plumbing. The initial problem seems to always go into other problems.

David, a good tip during the dry fitting of pvc is to use a felt marker and draw a line across both pieces to line them up in the same place as the dry fit. Works like a champ.

Pat - BTDT but this wasn't in a crawlspace. This was at my workbench in the shop

Joe - thx for the tip. I will use it when I actually install everything this weekend. It wasn;t so much an alignment problem as it was being stupid. I put the backflow preventer on the pump. then realized the wye for the future sink drain would be up too high being above the bp. So I took off the bp and went to hook up the wye. After putting the screw fitting on the wrong end (the wye would point hte wrong way when installed) I put another screw fitting and a threaded coupler on the other end. Then after all that I realized the wye should be on the drain into the pump, not on the discharge. So it took 3 extra parts to make a solution for a problem I didn't really have. And I'd carefully laid out all the parts beforehand so I didn't screw up like this.

              I hate plumbing.

English is a wonderful language. When I see the word "plumbing" I know the four-letter adjective is implied.

Last month my nephew was remodelling a bathroom at my sister's house. When soldering the pipes he started a fire in the wall above where he was working. The neighbors/best friends are on the first ones on the alarm company call list. Their house had a bad fire about a year ago. Nephew runs to their house for help. They start phoning the fire co., my sister, etc. The alarm co can't get through to them. Nobody can contact anybody. People are running up and down the block, fire engines arriving, etc. In the end, no serious damage was done, due to quick action with an extinguisher by the nephew.

I'd have paid admission to see all that going down, though. At my sister's house - not mine.
