could be project or tools, but general question

I am looking at reglueing some chairs, that have splayed legs. Is there a clamp that is generally better for splayed legs? (trying to make it easier).

Yes, a band clamp ... typically a strap of webbed fabric about 1" wide, with a mechanism for tightening it.

Lee Valley has some very nice ones for around $9 each. Also usually available at Lowe's, HD, etc.

Yeah, ditto what Larry said on the band clamps. I've been using the ratchet-style strap tie downs, and they've really come in handy.

You can make a cheap band clamp with rope and a dowel. Tie the two ends of the rope together and put them over the chair. Insert the dowel in the loop and start twisting the dowel to tighten the loop. You will have to clamp the dowel to something to keep it from untwisting.
