    A nice quote

Was reading an old ww magazine and ran across this John Ruskin quote:

"When we build, let us think that we build forever. Let it not be for present delight nor for present use alone. Let it be such work as our descendants will thank us for; and let us think, that as we lay stone on stone, that a time is to come when those stones will be held sacred because our hands have touched them and that men will say, as they look upon the labor and wrought substance on them, 'See! This our father did for us!'"
The war against inferior and overpriced furniture continues!

Wise words little understood in our throw-away society; throwing away our heroes, our traditions, our mutual respect, our craftsmanship...
    the list goes on.
    Later,

    Blessings,

      Great quote, thanks for sharing.
I do think about my kids using my "projects" and it gives me a sense of pride knowing that they may, one day, take up wood working...

A good post and very inspirational. With automation and big box kitchens, and plastics looking like wood, our hobby/craft/profession is taking a hit. I can't count the number of employees I've had over the years that I hope got touched by the artistic flair. Some left and opened their own shop, and we remain friends. I guess my father was my inspiration even though he was a dentist. He was a master woodcarver. I believe that his legacy has taught me that I can do whatever I set my mind to do. I don't have any biological children (that I know of) to teach whatever I have to teach, so maybe any contributions I can make will happen on this forum.
