    Shopsmith

I wasn't sure which forum to post this on, but since this is an "all inclusive" forum, here we go.

I have an old Shopsmith Mark2 that I'm considering selling. I have only used it as a drill press or 10" disc sander. A lot of parts are missing, since that's the way I bought it. As a drill press and sander, it works just fine. For someone who wanted to pick up other used parts, it could function in other capacities as well. My question is, does anyone want to take a stab at what a fair price would be? I don't want to rip anyone off, but it should be worth something. Thanks.

    Ed

I know a guy who made out pretty well selling one of those on eBay. He got more than what he paid for it. I don't know what they are worth, but I would put it on eBay and let the market decide.

      Hi Stav,

I appreciate the post, and I'll consider trying e-bay. But I'll probably try selling it locally first. It should be worth several thousand dollars.

Have a look at this one, Ed. May give you some idea/comparison.

you'll be doing good to get $1000 for it given that it's a mark 2 and that it's missing parts.

I don't think they make parts for it any more (I think they only make mark 5 parts now).

Check ebay and see how much other people are selling them for.

I wasn't serious when I said that. I was thinking possibly in the neighborhood of $150.00 or so might be a fair price.

Thanks for the post, Ray. But I've checked e-bay. Couldn't find a Mark2 at all.

This summer I ebay'd a 10er with assorted goodies, only major attachment I had was the jointer. With a brand new motor and everything I had for it, it only brought $300 but the guy did drive down from Mass to pick it up.

If I would have had the ambition and time, I could have made out a LOT better parting it out. I just wanted it gone tho'.
If it ain't broke.. don't fix it!!!... but you can always 'hop it up'

Check Craigslist; have seen a few Mk5's listed in Raleigh. Search in Raleigh doesn't turn up Mk2, but you might find one in your area or another area. Happy hunting!

                  Hi Ed,
Check this site out and look in the classified area. It may give you a feel for what you can get out of it or grab some additional parts for your own use. I use mine mostly for a lathe now. http://www.ssug.org/

Thanks for the tips, guys. There doesn't seem to be a lot to compare to out there. I might wind up keeping it if I don't find an interested buyer.

                      Hey Ed,
I inherited a 1955 Shopsmith and refurbed it and used it in the shop for a while before adding other tools. I've kept it for sentimental reasons but it sure is handy for the disc sander, the horizontal boring and as a lathe. You can by any part you need from SS and they are not unreasonable on price. I've seen two or three go here locally for $500-1000 depending on how they were outfitted.
                      Hope this helps,
