    Speaking of Coffee Pots...

    I hate my Mr. Coffee!

Hate is not too strong a word. I detest it.

    Why?

1: It drips... nearly every time I pour a cup, I have to clean up the dribbles. The carafe simply will not pour UNLESS YOU ARE OH SO CAREFUL.. BOSH!

2: It keeps the coffee too hot. It "burns" the coffee, and evaporates it down to sludge sooner than I would like.

3: It only stays on for 2 hours, I have to turn it back on or the coffee gets cold.

4: The buttons for on and off stick. Sometimes I have to pry the off button out (just a poofteenth) to get the "on" button to activate (this is if I have turned it off and back on again in order to get another 2 hours of hot coffee out of it).

I have bought a replacement Black and Decker that will go in place as soon as this one dies... I'm too cheap not to wait.

I've had this model Black and Decker before. It lets me set the warmer temp; it will stay on for up to 4 hours; it has wafer switches that do not stick, and you can wipe right over them without a care; it pours with nary a drip, even if you're in a hurry and not too careful.

Surely praying for the "homegoing" of my Mr. Coffee... Let Joe use it!

Break's over... Rant's over. Putting up one of the upper balustrades, photo updates soon, watch the "seven year staircase" thread in finished projects....

    thanks fer listenin'

4 hrs??? You are drinking your coffee way too slow. I've never had coffee last 4 hrs.

    I like my B&D.

    1. Price. LOML Got it NIB from Goodwill for 5 bucks

    2. It is an under-cabinet model.

    3. Insulated carafe keeps coffee hot for a surprisingly long time. Like hrs. So you don;t have to worry about setting a hot pot down anywhere

    4. Carafe is metal so when you drop it on the floor it isn't hurt.

    5. Did I mention the price?

On this I agree. You wouldn't think that designing a non-drip carafe would take a rocket scientist!

Not a coffee drinker, wife is big time, I like my Diet Pepsi. My wife calls me frugal (she is being nice), I'm a tightwad! Two things jump out at me.

        1. Try decaf, or at least cut back to double espresso

        2. Seriously, if you are to cheap to swap it out because it's not bad enough, then you shouldn't be complaining. Either it's bad enough, thus the complaining. OR it's not that bad, thus no reason to complain.

        Just my .02 cents worth.

Got's me a Bunn. Warmer goes off when you turn the switch off. Don't know how long it would take to 'burn' the coffee. It don't last that long.

Best thing is it takes about 2 minutes to brew a pot!

I, like Pappy, had a Bunn coffee maker. Paid like $175.00 for the thing. We bought it on a recommendation from a gentleman my wife works with.
Well, as fate would have it, we hated the thing, and ultimately gave it to a guy who works for me.
We drink Gevalia coffee, took advantage of a special offer they had, and got a new coffee maker. So far, we like it.
Was listening to Laura Ingraham one day, and she advertises Boca Java coffee. We tried some of that, and we really like it.

Just my opinion, yours may vary.

Keurig B60 - Buy the k-cups from the Timothy's down the street. Works out to $0.65 per cup versus $1.75 at the store. Always fresh. No leftovers. I have 8 kinds of dark roast to choose from at the moment. If I'm going to keep working instead of taking early retirement, I'm having real coffee at my desk!!

I've switched over to singleserve coffee in pods a couple of years ago. You may have seen some of the commercials for the Senseo. Makes a fresh cup of coffee in about a minute at the push of a button. There are several different brands of pod machines out there, I used to have the Senseo, now I have a Bunn MCP. Pods costs more per cup than a drip machine, but less than the coffee shop. There are literally hundreds of different pods available to suit your taste.

                  Brew 'n' Wave

Since I'm the only coffee drinker, we decided to conserve space, and bought the Sears/Kenmore combo microwave and coffee maker. I'd had it about two months when I accidentally tapped the caraffe against our counter (concrete, and we did it ourselves!). Anyway, it broke. Then I found out that the replacement caraffe (oddball size) is something like $75!!! The whole unit was $129. So, back to the old Mr. Coffee that was supposed to go in the yard sale.

Here is one for you guys. My Dad drinks coffee all day long so they went and bought a Hamilton Beach (I think that is the brand). One that you brew the coffee and then you can use one hand and push your cup up against it and get your coffee. Well last weekend he had problems turning on the pot as the buttons stick and the clock wasn't working right. So he went and go their old pot that he had put in the garage and made the morning coffee with that. Mom was telling me that he took the coffee maker that was giving him problems and went outside to see if there was something that he could do to fix it. My brother and mom were sitting at the table having some coffee and talking about what they were going to do and she said the next thing she knew there was plastic flying and she could hear my dad cussing and stomping the H*LL out of the old coffee maker. When she asked him what he was doing he said he was mad at the coffee pot and since it didn't work anymore he was beating it and stomping on it . My mom just shook her head and started laughing, and asked if he felt better and he smiled and said that he did indeed feel better and that the coffee maker got what it deserved.

I just wish they had a video camera because that would have been a sight to see.

Coffee to me is the ideal beverage. It seams to go with everything. Waking up, it connects cranial neurons for starting the day, for those who smoke it's a necessity. helps to talk on the phone, and get this, great for dunkin' Oreos. Got my habit in college and it carried to the military when there was nothing better than a cup of coffee after killing the enemy all day (just a slight exaggeration).

As far as coffee makers, tried a variety of styles. Never liked the terminology of "drip". After numerous Mr. Coffee's, tried the Melitta. I don't know if they even sell this type anymore, but it was so simple. It is an amber plastic funnel that sits on top of a glass carafe, and takes a cone filter. All you do is put in the coffee, and pour hot water in the cone. I've had it for years and still use it when the power goes out (we have gas stove). Wife prefers coffee makers. She's not a big coffee drinker. Anyway after Mr. Coffee's die, we started buying the "Kitchen Gourmet" brand 12 cup coffeemaker at Walgreens. It's less than $10.00 on sale. So what if it dies. My SIL who knows how I am about coffee bought us for Christmas one year a Cuisinart monster.

We've only used it once or twice cause it's too confusing. Manual comes in a loose leaf binder. Our last coffee maker died last week, and just got a Mr. Coffee 4 cup programmable. It's very compact and works fast and quiet. I don't know who ever determined the size of "a cup" but it certainly wasn't a coffee drinker.

Well I have used all kinds of coffee maker most with timers and have surcome to the Bunn Coffe maker (Comercial version) It has three burners so you can have as many pots made as by want (great for parties). The price for one of these units is over $300 Can but got mine used and can not tell you the price as it was almost a steal. Makes coffee in about 2 min. and we make about 4 pots per week day and about 8 pots on the weekend. So if you can get a good used comercial coffee maker jump at it.

Thee was a great thread on this a few months ago. Maybe our resident research ass. can post the link here.

I'll reiterate - I will never ever ever buy anything even near a Mr Coffee product ever again in my life. What a POS. And I bought two of them cuz i figured the first one was just a fluke. it wasn't. The most poorly engineered product i have ever had.

OK, maybe I'm a coffee snob, but I'm with Jaybee..I LOVE MY KEURIG B60!!

My wife and I used to fight over the coffee 'cuz she likes plain boring medium roast, and I like the occasional flavored cup, or very dark (Coffee People Black Tiger, or Timothy's Rainforest Espresso blend)...

SO I got the Keurig and now we don't fight over coffee any more - one problem solved, 2000+ to go

                              You may wanna try this...

OK, I've been lurking here since I bought my saw, and saw this thread. Something I can chime in on, as I am well versed on the subject.

A decade ago, I spent a couple years working at *$s corporate office. I DID learn a lot about coffee, and I still frequent their shops, probably too much. I'm pretty picky about my coffee...as for brewers, I have an Estro Vapore for espresso, a *$s branded drip machine with a nice s/s carafe, that if heated before brewing, will keep it warm all day. And of course, the ol' workhorse, the french press.

Over the years, I've developed a disdain for drip coffee. Too difficult to keep clean, which muddies the flavors. For the most part, I've stuck with espresso based drinks, until I read something on makezine.com, about some guy adding an industrial pump to his espresso machine. In the blog I read about this:

                              http://www.localsonlycoffee.com/Aero...TM-p/aer01.htm

Several people RAVED about it...For under 30 bucks, I figured I'd just return it when I found it to be a gimmicky piece of you-know. Or toss it in a drawer.

My experience is WOW! Not as good as a nice industrial espresso machine, granted, but a nice, not bitter, strong coffee drink. Worthy of my personal drink, the americano. My Vapore is gathering dust now. OK, we use the drip machine when people come over, and I have to make like 12 cups. But for a personal use (one or two cups), I've switched over to the aerobie exclusively. You do have to muddle with the temp a bit, but once you get used to it, it goes very quickly, and cleans up easily too.

No I don't have anything to do with the above company. Just like what they sold me!
