    The nightmare is (almost) over

You thought this was gonna be about the elections!

No, I'm referring to my move to a new house. I took a week off of work and spent dozens of hours moving stuff. My back and legs are still aching. I underestimated how long it would take to move stuff and we were literally throwing things into garbage bags as the new owners were coming up the driveway to inspect the house. After the closing I still had 4 carloads of stuff to move, plus 20 large bags of trash to clear out. I finished at 1 in the morning.

Consequently, we've barely begun to unpack. I can't find anything. My garage/workshop is a mess of boxes and tools. I can't get my home computer network going--switched to a cable modem from DSL.

On the positive side--we are now in town and within walking distance of kids' schools, music teachers, most of their friends, the grocery store, and even my work. I was able to convince my wife that the old furnace room should become a minishop for me to use mainly during the winter--moved my bandsaw, lathe and minilathe in there. (Haven't got to use it yet, though.) And, there is no ticking clock to unpack. At least until the lease expires next year...

There is no excuse for not woodworking. Unpacking WW stuff should have had precedence. But, congratulations on the move, and I know what it's like to live out of boxes and bags needing unpacking. When you find out which bag has what, it will get placed close to where you need it (like toilet paper and soap). For the aches and pains, maybe you should see a doctor.

Been there, done that. I very much understand what you went through. Take some time for yourself and have a beer Then enjoy the new home for all those reasons.

You mean you want to do this again in a year

Bought my first, and only, place in '90 after I retired from the Corps. Only way I would move again is if I hit the lottery and built my dream house. Then someone else is gonna do the work!

You got that right, Pappy. Getting too old, too broken and too smart to want to move again. Empty nest but full of grandkids, now. Schweeet. Hey Doc, just tell the wife all the improvements you can make on the fly as you discover the need. Ya gotta Tom Sawyer her into your way of thinkin!
              Good luck,
