    The Freya in flight!

It's been a while since I made you suffer hearing about my other hobby, the R/C helicopters. It has taken a lot more tweeking than I expected (not helped by an engine with a bad carb), but the Freya is finally flying like I hoped it would. Very smooth machine and it looks prety good in the air too! Since changing out the carb, the OS 70 purrs like a happy kitten. It starts well, has a good idle and transistions to full power smooth as silk. I had a great day flying yesterday along with my friend/mentor John.

We had some spectators at the field and John put on quite a show for them. I managed not to crash either of my birds! Afterwards, we both answered a lot of questions and sent a dad and his sons home with smiles on their faces.

I am about to get into the electric powered CP Heli. Sure would like a gas powered one but the price and the noise it causes here will prevent me. Even if muffled, one person complaining can put a stop to it.

Can't open the box until Christmas though.

If you have a video of your flights and can post it online, let us see it.

Hey Hank! Once you open that box you've taken the first step toward the dark side! Which helo are you getting? Be warned, the small electrics can be a handfull to fly. However, once you master them, you can fly anything.

With the newer muffers, the nitro birds are surprising quiet. The Hatori mufflers, while expensive, give a nice sound. Keep me posted on your progress!

I have one video clip I made a year ago when I was on about my 5th flight. I have NO idea how to post one. If you go to www.usaheli.com you can see some vid clips that my friend and instructor posted. The helo is a Fury that on of my co-workers recently bought (slightly used). Since Paul has zero helo experience, he asked John to look it over and change to head settings to "novice". There's a lot of smoke, but realize the engine is still fairly new so John was running it very rich.

John also has a Fury identical to it and I got to fly it about a month ago. When hovering that baby, you don't move the sticks, you just put a bit of pressure on them. It's about the same size as my Freya, with the same engine, but since it has so much carbon fiber in it, it weighs about a pound less.

I ordered the Honey Bee King RTF such as the one posted on Hobby Lobby RC.

I watched the videos, thanks. I can't wait to get started, but LOML said I had to wait til Christmas, so I will.

When you get a video of your flights made, let us know.

I've actually considered the Honey Bee King. It's got the two things I consider important, a collective pitch head and a belt driven tail.
If at all possible Hank, get some local help to trim it out for you. You won't believe how much easier it is fly a well trimmed bird. If any of your local friends have a simulator like Real Flight G3 or Reflex, spend a little time on it too. Those two items will greatly increase your chances of success.

Good luck! After you make that first hover, you'll be hooked!
