    When to buy....

Looking to buy several power tools as in: Bandsaw and/or Jointer and/or thickness planner and/or Drill Press etc. My questions are: Does Home Depot and/or Lowe's and/or Menard's have that stuff on sale? When they have 10%, 20% off sales around Christmas are those items excluded / included?? I seem to remember some of those sales to have exclusions but I can't remember what they excluded. In general when is a good time to find those items on sale, other than when they discontinue them?

Never bought the big ticket items, so I'm not sure when a good time to buy them would be. Thanks for your help.

I'd say if you are not in a hurry watch the local sales ads and check craigslist. You can get perfectly good used tools for 40/50% of retail and depending on the owner they may have been barely used.

I've never seen the big ticket stuff on sale at the big boxes except around Christmas or Father's day.

Manufacturers often run promotions around year-end. Last year Jet was aggressive. Not in big-box stores however.

I have no trouble waiting, have been for several months already. Do they go on sale around Christmas? Or are they excluded on the Christmas sales??

Over the past year, i was unimpressed with tool sales in November and December. Even Amazon seemed to stop all of their promotions leading up to Christmas. The best sales seemed to start in January and run through early spring. Keep an eye on Amazon too. Except for closeouts, you usually can get better deals there than at the big box stores if you hit the right sale. Do your research ahead of time so you can jump if you see a sale, including stuff that may be a little outside of your price range.
