    night vision scope

Okay guys, I need some advice.

I'm looking for a night vision spotting scope so that LOML can watch the deer in our front yard. I don't want one of the ones that has the flashlight attached, but an ambient light scope.

Anyone have any knowledge of these things? what I should look for, etc. I don't want to pay a mint, but I am willing to spend money.

Go to amazon.com and type in 'Night Vision'. Looks like you can get something for about $150-200. Can also try ebay. You also might want to google for some forums discussing those - I know that night vision stuff has many categories, and can range in prices wildly.

Personally, if I need to check something around house when it's dark, I grab my Sony digital camcorder. Its 'Super nightshot' mode is pretty much night vision.

I am not an expert by any means. But I do own the Night Owl Generation 1 model. It serves the same purpose you want one for. It does fine and the quality seems okay. It does seem a bit fuzzy though. If I ever buy another one it will be a least a Generation 3 model. They have a much better picture IMHO.

        Hope it make LOML happy.

          Hey Mike,

C'mon now and 'fess up, you really either want to peek into someones window or get into sniping.

Speaking of sniping, did you guys hear about the Marine sniper who returned from Iraq and was being questioned by a reporter? The reporter asked the Marine if he "...felt anything..." when he shot people whith his sniper rifle. The Marine thought it over a while, then replyed: "Yeah, recoil."
