    Any Sportbike Riders Here?

Does anyone here ride a sportbike?

I rode motorcycles when I was younger, but haven't been on one since I sold my last road bike, a Yamaha 750 Seca, almost two decades ago. Ever since then the urge to resume riding has been an on-and-off thing; lately, it's increasingly been "on."

My dilemma is how best to get back into it. If my skills were current, I'd buy a Ducati Sport 1000. Since they're not, I'm trying to decide between something like the Suzuki SV650 or, what I'd really like to have, a Honda Super Hawk. I think the latter would be better for me overall, since I would want to take some long-weekend trips and occasionally ride with a passenger. And, at 54, I'd like to think I'm wise enough to keep my throttle hand under control. Still, I wonder about the advisability of crawling aboard a 100HP bike after such a long layoff.

Anyone who rides ... discuss, please.

I did a lot of riding in the 70's - 90's. Check out my other thread in "Coffee Pot" about 70's Cafe Racer. Had many bikes and even raced some. Getting back into the groove again has interested me. It was one of my great releases. This bike below was my Goldwing that I rode all over the US with. I would probably get another cruiser, with safe passenger setup, and bags for an over niter. You might look into a local riding group, that gets together for a cruiser night, or trips. You can meet some cool people that way, like me. Geezers our age need something that takes us away, know what I mean? If you're well walleted, get a rice burner, and a cruiser!

You never forget how to ride a bike.

Seriously though, if you had a good deal of experience in the past, then you should have some "muscel memory" for riding. I rode a bike a few years in college just because it was so cheap. I keep a motorcycle endorsement on my license though I haven't owned a bike in years. Once or twice a year I'll have a friend get a new Harley (live in York PA . . . Harley final assemby plant) and I'll take it out for 15 - 20 minutes. I comes back real quickly, plus you have age and wisdom on your side now.

Used to own a 2002 GSX-R750 but LOML made me get rid of it after 2 good friends of ours died in a motorcycle accident two years ago. Love when I had it and missed riding it.

I remember when me and my friends would hang out in downtown Naperville and have all our bikes line up and guess who would show up in the middle of the night? Michael Jordan with his full body gear and his Hayabusa that was all tricked out.

Amaze's me when I try to recollect all the stupid things I've done when I was younger. Would not even dare to do it again if I ever do get back on a bike.

My bike looked exactly like this:
