Wow I have seen and passed Triples, driving accross Nevada but never that many. What was it a parade or demo. By the looks of the crowd it was a special occasion.

I've only ever seen doubles. FedEx and UPS run them around here all the time.

Ok, so what is the story behind the picture. When, Where, Why, etc.

Since the "slacking dispatcher hasn't told anyone" Mark told me last night it was for a parade. Sure glad we don't pull gas tankers that way! BTW, does anyone know how to tell if a dispatcher is lying?? Errr, sorry Mark, not telling the whole truth? Pat

I would assume it's the same way you tell if a politician or lawyer is lying--the lips are moving....

                      Oops!

The details: this was my companies entry for the parade in Yakima, WA which is the city where our corp. HQ is located.

In our normal traffic lanes we are only allowed double trailers with an overalll combined trailer lenght of 75' and a GVW of 105,500#.

There is a very small number of very expierenced drivers that can back up two at a time (I've done it twice and it was not pretty) but backing up this train would for sure be impossible!

Needless to say our entry got first place in our division.

And Pat ya know how to make a good dispatcher don't ya? "Take a good truck driver and remove his brain....."

Can that thing turn a corner?? How much room does it need to turn a corner? Or was the parade pretty much a straight shot? I can see there is a little curve / dog leg in the background.

The reason I'm asking is I'm in charge of our local parade. And I'm always looking for new / different things. Are parade route makes a 90 degree left hand turn. Yes, I know your too far away from Ohio, but there are local trucking companies.

Sorry Mark, the picture is cool..... but I just can't pass on a chance to rag on a dispatcher. Pat

Theoretically with equal length trailers the rear trailer in a set of doubles will follow the same track as the lead. Real world expierence is that the pup (rear trailer) may offtrack 6". If my seat of the pants memorey is correct total offtrack for the tenth trailer in combination could be 60" or 5' which would still be less than just one single 53' trailer with the axles moved the way to the rear. (many trailers have moveable axles or axle groups)

Wish I could find the pictures of the coker drum that a local company sent up north. It was 250 ft long and 16 ft wide. They have to drive about 100 miles extra just to find an overpass that can handle the turn onto the main highway. And then way off track to get across the river.
It took 6 days or better to travel 250 miles
