    Willie's On The Road Again!

"LAFAYETTE, La. Sep 18, 2006 (AP)— Willie Nelson and four others were issued misdemeanor citations for possession of narcotic mushrooms and marijuana after a traffic stop Monday morning on a Louisiana highway, state police said.
The citations were issued after a commercial vehicle inspection of the country music star's tour bus, state police said in a news release.
"When the door was opened and the trooper began to speak to the driver, he smelled the strong odor of marijuana," the news release said. A search of the bus produced 1 1/2 pounds of marijuana and 0.2 pounds of narcotic mushrooms, according to state police.
Nelson's publicist, Elaine Shock, declined immediate comment.
Also cited were Tony Sizemore, 59, of St. Cloud, Fla.; Bobbie Nelson, 75, of Briarcliff, Texas; Gates Moore, 54, of Austin, Texas; and David Anderson, 50, of Dallas.
Each was released after being issued a citation. "

1.5 pounds, and they got a misdemeanor??
Bet all the ole poots had a severe case of the munchies too!

Free Willie! (Had to say that)

I love Willie, and just wish the Man would leave Willie alone to write songs and play them. He's a national treasure, whether he's living up to his outlaw image or not.

If you don't like Willie, well, you don't know much about music.
    Jeff

I completely agree, Jeff. I'm not a fan of the beer-joint, run-away-with-your-neighbors-dog style of country music, but Willie, David Allen Coe, Hank Jr., etc. make good music.

The report didn't say, but I'd almost wager that in Lafayette, La., Willie rode off with his stash.

          Will these guys never learn?

Isn't that what drum kits are for? Hide the extra stash.

A great song from Toby Keith:

With Willie's luck, even though he convinced the locals that 1-1/2 lbs is a personal-use quantity, the IRS will come after him for taxes and penalties!

                I dunno JR. Here's La.'s pot law:

                LA. RS 40:966
Possession of Marijuana Under 60 pounds:
                1. First conviction: Fine of not more than $500, imprisonment of not more than six months, or both.

                2. Second conviction: Fine of not more than $2,000, imprisonment with or without hard labor of not more than five years, or both.

                3. Third or subsequent conviction: Imprisonment with or without hard labor for not over 20 years.

Another report said all the guys in the bus claimed ownership, so in La. that made it possession, not distribution.

Wow! And I thought California was liberal.

It's amusing how some of the states view our national "war on drugs". There's clearly a disconnect between federal policy makers and the views seen at the state and local level.

Not to get political, but if they would leave this one alone they could spend more time on ridding us of real problem drugs. You don't see many pot-heads holding up stores for money.

There is a push up here to decriminalize pot like in Holland but the US government has threatened retaliation if it goes through.

                    Don't get me started.

My favorite Willie Nelson story (oh yeah, there's a lot of them) is the one in which he was invited to the White House by Jimmy Carter. He arrived, visited for a while, and enjoyed a nice meal with the POTUS. On his way to retire for the evening, he struck up a conversation with a Secret Service agent, and ended up on the ROOF of the place smoking a joint. What a hoot!

If an average person were caught with 1 1/2 # of grass (not even considering the mushrooms) would he be allowed to leave the state?

It might be awhile before he gets to leave.
